It's been five years sense we've discovered peace in our little town, no one messes with it. we're small, but just one of the many groups that have made their own peace, a new normal. we still had chores, they weren't like the normal but they were chores.

clear the gate of any walkers

That was my chore, typically simple, there's always three of us, we were only allowed melee weapons too much noise attracts more walkers, it was a simple chore, but saved for the adults.

"(y/n), Carl, Jason, you're on walker control." Rick told us, he held a tender look in his eyes that told us to be careful. after all Rick has known my family practically all our lives, it wasn't a close relationship, but instead he was the sheriff of our town and so we all have spoken to him at some point in our lives. Rick was always kind and would make small talk with anyone.

"we'll be careful" I say with a smile knowing what he was thinking. Rick gave a small smile and nodded. Carl, Jason, and I joined together and began heading to gate. Rick heard the chuckles and playful banter coming between the group and he couldn't help but to smile, he knew Carl had friends again.

"shit that's gross" Jason scowled as he watched a walker eat the corpse of a deer.

"no duh dude, they're walkers they're gross" Carl chuckled as he grabbed out his knife, looking between Jason and I

Jason pulled an arrow from his bag and got his bow ready and I pulled out my hatchet.

"you ready?" I asked them knowing all though we joke around a lot this time we had to be serious and careful no mistakes can be made.

they both let out a shaken breath as they nod and that's when the hunt began.

there wasn't many walkers that had gathered which was good news, but also quite odd. typically they had about 20 walkers gathered and stuck in one little area for them to kill at the end of the night, and yet only 7 appeared.

"Carl! Oer here!" I yelled to him as I desperately try to fight off the walker that suddenly came behind me, along with the one in front of me.

"Got it" he replied, Jason didn't have it much easier, he had three coming his way with only one arrow left.

the fear in my stomach only seemed to grow as the walkers appeared one by one. I looked at Carl then at Jason and nodded they knew what had happened. we had been caught in a horde.

"what the fuck do we do!" Jason's voice trembled as he ran over to Carl and I.

"we need to run as fast as we can. call the report in to my dad and we run, doesn't matter how far or how many turn you take, just run. we'll always find each other" Carl spoke,  I hesitantly nodded.

"Rick Grimes, Rick can you hear me?"

"Rick, look I don't know how much time we have left" I mumbled feeling the tears I tried so desperately to hold back slipped as my chest grew heavy, like any minute it could cave in.

"it's (y/n). Jason, carl and I are stuck in a horde outside the gate. we have to run. Carl will  have the walkie talkie, please just find us." I stated as carl wrapped his arms around me, trying to comforting the best he knew how to at the moment.

"I'll find you, I always will. In this universe and every other I will find you. you and Jason run together in the same direction, I will go a separate way to distract the walkers. since i have the walkie talkie dad will find me easier then we will solve this and find you two. got it" i needed as I buried my head in his chest wanting to feel the safety one last time just incase.
