A/N: so yeah, from looking at one quick shot from a TV Spot, as well as footage the 5 minute trailer, Final Trailer and Japanese Trailer (or TV Spot), It's no secret that Godzilla is going to be gaining his Burning Form in this film.

The question is How though? What event could have happened to result in him gaining a form where Godzilla's Body is covered in great amount of heat and making him somewhat more powerful than before?
Well, I have two guesses on how this might have happened.
My first one has to do with Godzilla's temple that Serizawa visits while carrying some sort of detonation device (The device of which was seen in the final trailer for a brief moment).
The detonation device I believe was something to wake Godzilla up, however, it seems like it was more of a forceful means of waking him up. Which is why Serizawa looked worried when he had it.

And sometime after Serizawa had the close encounter with Godzilla, He would leave and the bomb or whatever, would eventually detonate and blow up the temple with Godzilla inside.
