Nick Campbell was having the worst day of his life. He had just lost his job as a salesman that he had for years.
Now...instead of drowning his sorrows in beer, he was at his nephew's baseball game.
"That's terrible Nicky. Are you okay?" his sister asked as she tried to comfort him.
"I should have gone on my own when I had the chance." he admitted. "Stupid!" he mumbled.
"You did the right thing," said his sister. "Got a paycheck, played it smart." Nick nodded. "Dad would have been proud." she added. Nick scoffed. "Proud of what? I didn't play it smart. I played it safe. Look where I am now. Proud?"
"At your nephew's Little League game," said his sister. "Cheer up! Come on!" she then turned her attention back to her kid. "All right Tate!"
"Here we go, Tate! Put some wood on it!" Nick cheered before he looked down at his feet. "He's a great kid."
"You miss her, don't you?"
"Who? My ex-wife? Hell no."
"No, I meant Veronica, your daughter."
Nick sighed. "I do," he admitted. "You know it's been about...fourteen years since I last saw her." "I know," his sister said. "Have you ever tried contacting her?"
"A ton of times but the calls never went through."
"Maybe you'll see her one day."
"Maybe."
But Nick wasn't sure he would ever see his daughter again. But little did he know, that he would soon be seeing her again.

NOTE: Yes I know this chapter was short but I wanted to include this scene into my book. The next chapter will be short as well but don't worry! They will get longer when Veronica gets to Google :) *
