It had been a week since Veronica's interview and she was getting antsy about knowing whether or not she had gotten the internship at Google.
She entered her apartment while carrying two bags of grocery. She put them away in her kitchen. Her laptop signaled a noise, meaning she had new emails.
She walked over to her laptop and scrolled through her emails. One email caught her eye and she took a deep breath before opening it.
Dear Veronica Campbell,
Congratulations on getting the internship to Google! We are looking forward to meeting you."
Veronica stopped reading as she danced around her kitchen. She danced her way over to her phone and dialed a number she knew by heart. The person on the other line picked up after one ring.
"You got the internship."
"Yes, I did!" Veronica smiled when she heard her mom cheer through the phone.
"Hold on sweetie, I'm putting you on speaker,"
"Congratulations on the internship!" Mark spoke.
Veronica smiled even wider. Mark was her step-dad. Her mom remarried when she was eight and ever since then, Veronica loved how much Mark cared about her and her mom. "Thank you dad for telling me about this internship. I'm just so happy I actually got in."
"You're welcome. Do you know what this calls for?" he paused. "A celebratory dinner. Are you busy tonight?" "I'm free." "Perfect!" her mom cheered. "Our usual place?" Mark asked as Veronica nodded. "Sounds perfect."
"See you at six!" Mark said. "Bye, sweetie!"
"Bye!"
Veronica hung up her phone as she let out a laugh. She couldn't believe she got the internship. This internship could lead to big things in her career and she couldn't wait to start her future.

Veronica stood at the front door of her parent's house and rang the doorbell. She waited a few moments before the door opened. She looked up and smiled when she saw her mother standing there.
"Veronica!" her mother cried as she opened the door wider and Veronica stepped in. Her mother, Kate, brought Veronica into a hug. Veronica laughed and hugged her mother back. The mother and daughter pulled away.
"You're just in time for dinner. Come on into the dining room," her mother said as she escorted Veronica into the dining room where she was met with her step-father, Mark, and her eleven year old half-brother, Max.
Veronica rolled her eyes but chuckled at the sight of Mark and Max having some sort of contest going on. The two held a fan to their tongue to see who could hold it there the longest.
Max lost, making him pout. He looked up and smiled.
"Veronica!" he shouted as he stood up from his chair and ran over to her. Veronica held her arms out and caught Max as he jumped onto her. "Max, it's so good to see you again." She set Max down on his feet and he pulled her over to the table.
Mark stood up and brought Veronica into a hug. She smiled, happy to be with her family again. Veronica sat down next to her brother while her parents sat across from them. The four began eating. Throughout dinner, laughter was shared as each one was happy to all be back together.
After dinner was over, Kate brought out dessert which happened to be cake with ice cream. Everyone dug in.
Soon, their plates were empty once again.
Mark held his cup in his hand and held it up. "Veronica," he began as everyone looked over at him. "Congratulations again on getting an internship at Google. Kate and I are so proud of everything you had accomplish so far on your journey of life."
Veronica smiled as he raised his cup even higher. "To Veronica,"
"TO VERONICA!" everyone cheered as they clinked their glasses with one another. "Congrats, sis," Max said as Veronica ruffled his hair. The two half-siblings looked over at their parents and who were sharing a sweet kiss.
Veronica and Max looked at each other and shared a look as they grinned before turning back to their parents. The two let out a playful "EW!" and their parents broke apart and laughed.

Later that night, the family of four, settled down in the family room and watched Mrs. Doubtfire together. Mark looked over to his left to see his son sleeping. He then looked to the right to see the same thing with his wife and step-daughter.
He smiled lightly. He was happy that Veronica had spent the day with them. Scratch that...he was truly happy that everything was going right for her in her life. Knowing her from when she was eight to now twenty-one, he had seen her at her worst and now...she was at her best.
He and Kate couldn't wait to see the success that Veronica would soon have her in her life.
