Jack's POV

I floated around the globe, looking at all of the glowing lights. Each one a believer. Each one a precious child to protect. They believed in the Tooth Fairy, Santa Clause, the Sandman, the Easter Bunny, and maybe even me. There was always a chance.

I knew at least one did. Jamie. Cute little Jamie. The last believer.

"Are you just going to do nothing mate?" Bunny called from the platform where the yeti were working. I sat at the top of the globe and peered down at him.

"I don't work year round!" I replied. He huffed and crossed his arms.

"And why are you here at the North Pole anyway? Don't you have eggs to paint?" I asked.

"North sent out a call. I was actually wondering if you could tell me where he was." Bunny said.

"What? North called a meeting without me?" I protested, gliding to the floor next to Bunny. He grinned.

"This meeting may be for more seasoned guardians." He said.

"I've been a guardian for a year! I'm seasoned!"

"Face it mate. You're the newbie here. Now, do you know where North is or not?"

"Not. Let's go find him."

"You mean I'll go find him."

"No, I'm coming too."

"No invitation, no arrival. Tough luck mate." Bunny said. Then he started walking away. I followed him out of the room and to North's office. It had all sorts of ice sculptures in it, toys North had built. North was there, tinkering away.

"You rang?" Bunny said. North looked up.

"Bunny! Come join the party!" He said. Tooth and Sandy were already there. Then North noticed me. He looked slightly uncomfortable.

"Jack my boy, I'm sorry but... this meeting..." He started, then trailed off. I sighed.

"Let me guess. It's for more seasoned guardians." I sighed. North brightened.

"Exactly! Now, you go back to whatever you were doing before Bunny showed up. Have fun!" He said, waving cheerfully. I sighed again and left the room, closing the door behind me. I stood there for a moment feeling sorry for myself, until a yeti walked past me and into the room.

"There you are! It's about time you showed up!" I could hear North say. I frowned. A yeti was not a guardian. They were just trying to get rid of me.

"Who needs them anyway?" I grumbled. I touched my staff to the door, freezing it shut. Then I flew outside and onto the roof of the North Pole. And that's where I stayed for a good hour or two.

"Jack?" A tentative voice asked. I looked over my shoulder to see Tooth hovering there.

"Jack, are you ok?" She asked. I looked straight ahead.

"Why did you freeze the door? It took us twenty minutes and fifteen yetis to get it open."

"Couldn't North just use his snow globes?" I asked.

"No snow globes in the workshop. He doesn't want to accidentally transport his creations anywhere."

"Makes sense." I said grudgingly. We waited in silence.

"Jack, why don't you come inside?" Tooth finally suggested.

"What, do you need 'non-seasoned guardians' now?"

"It's not like that..."

"Oh I understand perfectly. You don't trust me after Baby Tooth."

"Jack, this is ridiculous! Just come inside. Please."

"I think I'd rather stay out here. The cold never bothered me anyway."

"Black molars and cavities! Just come inside Jack!" Tooth shouted. I was silent, trying not to laugh.

"Did you just try to curse Tooth?" I finally asked, hiding a smile.

"Just come on Jack." She grumbled. I finally flew after her inside. We went to the globe room. It was all dark, and nothing was moving.

"Uh... Tooth? Why are the lights-" I started.

"SURPRISE! HAPPY GUARDIAN ANNIVERSARY JACK!" I heard everyone shout, then the lights flashed on. The room was decorated with snowflakes, and all the yeti were holding wooden staffs. I laughed at the sight.

"You guys did this all for me?" I asked happily.

"Of course! But it had to be a surprise." North said. At that moment, Sandy began motioning frantically. Tooth gasped and covered her mouth. I turned to follow their eyes.

The full moon was shining onto a single patch of floor, where a crystal was rising.

"What's going on?" I asked. No one answered me. The light from the crystal began to form a shape. A girl with a cape and braided hair. She was smiling and waving.

"Manny has chosen a new guardian." North whispered.
