Jack's POV

The red crystal felt heavy in my pocket. A chance to be mortal again. To have the life that I had lost. But at the cost of my existence as a guardian. I would be just plain old Jack again. The boy who had given his life to save his sisters.

"Jack, you ok?" Elsa asked. I snapped back to reality and pulled my hand out of my pocket. She was looking at me with a slightly worried face. We were all gathered around their dinner table while they ate. I didn't have to eat, but I was with them anyway. I was never going to let Anna out of my sight again.

"Yeah, I'm fine." I told her.

"So what are we going to do now?" Anna asked. I shrugged.

"Wait I guess. Mortals can't enter the North Pole."

"So we're going to wait until I die?"

"Yep."

"Then why didn't we just let Pitch kill me? I would've been dead after that."

"Because if Pitch kills you, you become his puppet. You need to die naturally. However you're supposed to die, if me and Pitch never interfered."

"Oh. Ok. So does that mean... I'm going to die young?"

"Not necessarily. North is an old man. You could be old or young. whatever suits Manny."

"Oh." She went back to picking at her food. I was worried about her. She seemed less cheerful after having nearly been killed.

"What's it like being a guardian?" Elsa asked. I could tell she was trying to change the subject.

"It's fun. We have meetings at the North Pole, but usually we just go about doing our duties. I make snow and snow days. Sandy gives girls and boys good dreams. Bunny is in charge of Easter. North is in charge of Christmas. And Tooth collects teeth that kids lose and put money in their place."

"Sounds fun."

"It is. We get to watch over all the children of the world."

"Sort of like being king or queen."

"Not really. I don't have any responsibilities. I just cause fun."

"Sounds amazing." Elsa said wistfully.

"It is." I told her.

"Could you teach me how to fly?" Elsa asked. I shrugged.

"Sure. It's not that hard really."

"Thanks! When can we get started?"

"Why not now?"

"This I have to see." Anna said. The three of us went into the ball room, and I tapped my staff on the floor. It was instantly covered in ice and snow. Anna laughed and smiled, and I stood beside Elsa.

"What do I do?" She asked.

"Have you ever summoned wind before?" I asked.

"Yeah."

"Try using it to push yourself up. Like a platform or blanket." I floated a few inches off of the ground to demonstrate. Elsa waved her hand, and suddenly she was shooting towards the ceiling.

"AHHH!" She screamed, flailing her arms wildly. I shot towards her and used my powers to make the wind carry her back to the ground. She landed and sat down quickly, quiet red in the face. I crouched beside her.

"Nice. Good for a first try." I said.

"Huh? That's all you can say? I flew! I'm going to try that again." She said excitedly. I grinned.

"Be my guest." She stood up and brushed herself off, then took a deep breath. She raised her hand, and began to hover a few inches off of the ground. Then she began to twist and tilt, like she was ice skating for the first time.

"Woah!" She said. I flew beside her and reached out to hold her steady, but she waved me away.

"I can do this." She assured me. I floated back and watched as she steadied herself.

"This isn't too different from ice skating!" She told me. Ice skating. It brought back a memory of another girl who went ice skating. A girl with brown hair and a wonderful laugh. I shook my head. I couldn't think about her now. I had a job to do.

"Yeah. You're doing great!" I told her. She started experimenting, flying towards the roof, then back and forth between the two walls. Finally, she tried spinning in the air.

"Woah!" she said, and started to drop to the ground. I dove and caught her, setting her gently down. She giggled and looked at me.

"Probably wasn't the best idea." She laughed.

"Yeah, unless your used to spinning, I wouldn't try it." I agreed. We sat there for a moment, looking at each other. At that moment, Anna spoke up.

"We should get going guys. I promised that I would check out a new modification Kristoff made on his sleigh." Anna said. I stood and helped Elsa to her feet. She was still a little dizzy, but she managed to follow us. As we left the snow filled room and I made the snow vanish, I realized something.

I loved Queen Elsa of Arandell.
