That night we just snuggled until we fell asleep. There was tension in his body, a tension I wish I could help him release but it's something bigger than sex or a good massage can take care of. He has to come back to me, to us.
Dom was there, just like he said, in the morning to say goodbye. Brian went alone to take me though, he was uncharacteristically quiet. It makes no sense to wish that our situation was different because it isn't gonna fix anything but I let myself have the fantasy.
I was leaving out of a small, private airstrip. Roman's jet was there and ready for me when we arrived. We got out of the car and Brian just pulled me into his arms and held me. I was trying very hard not to cry but he wasn't making it easy.
"Brian, are you okay?" I asked, pulling away to look up at him.
"Charlie, babe, listen to me. Something big is going down tonight, you know that. If you don't hear from me in 24 hours, I need you to take Jessie and move on. You understand? Do you understand what I'm saying?" He asked, taking my shocked face in his hands.
"Brian, no . . ."
"Promise me, Charlotte. Tell me that you understand what I'm asking you to do."
"No, I can't do that, Brian. I just can't and you can't ask me to do that. B, I'm pregnant, we're gonna have another baby." I told him.
Tears sprung in his eyes and the ones in my eyes finally fell over. I have to get this message across because I'm not gonna let him give up like that. He has to fight, he has to come home to the three of us now.
"Another baby?" he asked.
"Yes, it's a boy and he's gonna need his daddy. So you have to go and finish this, you have to fight and finish this once and for all and come home to him. You have to come to get us. I'm so sorry I didn't tell you before. I was scared . . . that you'd be disappointed with domestic life. That you'd be unhappy with me, but we need you, Brian." I argued.
"You know, the best decision I ever made was stepping into the store and buying that first horrible sandwich from Mia. I had been going there for about a week when you showed up and I'm so grateful that I did." he said.
"It was such a bad sandwich." I chuckled through my tears.
"I know, right, but I ate a lot of them and I would do it all again . . . I love you, Charlie." he said, bending down to kiss me.
"Don't do that." I told him, turning my face away.
"What?"
"The way you said it, it's like a goodbye. Say something else to me before I get on the jet. Do not say goodbye, Brian O'Conner." I sniffled.
"Okay, kiss Jessie for me, a lot of times, when you get there." he said with a small, fake smile.
"I will."
"I love you, Charlie." he said, kissing me then walking away.
"I love you more, Brian." I whispered, before turning around and getting on the jet.
The flight felt like it took forever but it was only six hours out of the normal 8 or more on a commercial flight. I just couldn't help the fidgeting or the nerves. I did the right thing by leaving, the safe thing, and I know that but I can't help the longing to be there or the worry for my family.
Vince came with Mando to come to get me and I just hopped into his arms. I can admit that I really missed him.
"Where's Mia and the kids?" I asked.
"They're in the house with my bodyguards watching them." Mando replied.
"Thank you, so much, for watching over my baby and family." I said, hugging him.
