"Daddy, where are we going?" Your tiny five year old face stared up at your father, watching tears roll down his sooty face as he held you close to his chest, racing across the London rooftops.

"Somewhere safe, darling."

You nodded, clutching tighter to his shirt, your tiny hands leaving behind grey handprints, the soot transferring. The booming sounds of bombs being dropped rang in your ears, faintly, but even as a small child you could tell they were getting closer. It was scary, but you didn't completely understand what was happening. All you really knew was that your father had picked you up during your sleep and climbed to the roof, taking off across the London skyline.

"(Y/n), just remember that mummy and daddy love you, okay?"

You looked up at your father again, a teardrop landing on your face as he slowed, coming to a stop. "What's wrong, daddy?"

He wiped at his face, more soot smudging across his cheeks. "Sometimes," he set you down and knelt to your level, holding your hands, "sometimes people go on adventures. And sometimes they get a little lost, and you might not see them for a while."

You stared at him, squeezing his hands. "Is that where mummy went? On an adventure?"

"Of course she did, darling. She went on a magnificent adventure, filled with heffalumps and woozles."

You squealed, jumping slightly. "Can we go with her?"

"Not today, darling." He smiled sadly, "but I have to go help mummy. You might not get to see me for a while."

"Why can't I come?" Your head tilted to the side, (h/c) hair falling gently. "Don't you want to go on an adventure with me and mummy?"

He started crying again, pulling you suddenly into his chest for a tight hug. "I love you, (y/n). I love you so so much."

You hugged him back, "I love you too, daddy."

After a few minutes he released you, taking your hand and walking you towards the chimney stacks nearest you. He picked you up, placing you on the stoop in between two of them. "Mummy and daddy need you to stay right here, okay?"

You nodded gleefully, excited to be able to listen to your father and make him happy. "When can I get up?"

"When daddy comes back for you, okay?"

You nodded, giggling as he kissed your tiny forehead, and watched as he walked away towards the edge of the building. He slid over the edge, waving at you as he decended the ladder that the chimneysweeps used.

You sat there, playing with the hem of your nighttime shirt as you waited patiently. The booms that erupted around London were gradually getting louder, not that you minded too much. Your daddy would always be there to protect you.

The bright glow of light surrounded the city, the buildings being illuminated. You silently praised the illuminaries, particularly the ones that waved to you in your bedroom before bed. You wondered for a brief second why the city was lit so brightly, you couldn't remember there being this many lights along the parkway the last time you had been out.

A strange, onimous whistling noise drew you from your thoughts, and you looked around for its source.

"LOOK OUT!"

You jumped as you heard screaming from the streets below you, fear clutching at your chest. Finally looking up, you smiled.

"A shooting star!" You smiled, clutching your hands together and closing your eyes to make a wish. You stayed like that quietly, not even noticing as the bomb made contact with the building you resided on.

You could barely open your eyes, something thick seeming to be covering them. Firefighters and heros stood around you, many of them frantically waving their arms as a man kneeled over you. His face was smiling brightly, hands just slightly raised off your chest as you let out a cough.

You watched as his mouth moved, but you couldn't hear anything. "What?" You couldn't even hear yourself.

He said something again. Still not being able to hear his words, you shook your head and closed your eyes, the feeling of tar covering them making you sleepy once more. Just a small nap couldn't hurt, right?
