"LUKE! Are you serious right now?" Liz screamed at him. They were sitting outside in Luke's family home, well his old home. "I don't understand what is going on right now." she stood up from the curb and pushed her hair back. "Why are you leaving? Why can't you stay with me? We can't be separated! I need someone to help get through high school!" Elizabeth started to pace back and forth behind him. "Why aren't you saying anything?!"

"How can I speak when you're still rambling on?" Luke stood up and reached out to take her arms in his hands. "Lizzie, stop please. We'll figure this out."

"How? I don't think my mom wants to raise a boy" she looked up at him and frowned. Luke was tall for a thirteen year old.

"Ouch," he dramatically took a hand to his heart as if she had just ripped it out of him. "Our mums are best friends. I have to leave, Dad lost his job and now we're losing the house. I told you this Lizzie. I won't be far."

"You moving down the street is far for me. Now the next town over? City? States?! What am I supposed to do?" tears brimmed brown eyes. Luke wanted to stay and hold her for the rest of the time he had, even if it was just a little bit. He pulled her towards him and buried his head in his neck.

" What am I supposed to do without you?" he breathed out. Luke was angry. At his parents, at his dad's old job. He was also miserable.

Luke and Liz lived their whole life together. From the time they were born, just days after each other, to sharing their first kiss. They were neighbors until they moved a few houses down due to a sewage problem. The kiss was a joke and they wanted to see what it felt like. They were nine. Luke formed a crush on her since he really even knew what a crush was.

He distracted his feelings about her towards another girl, Skylar.

"Maybe I'll still be close enough to go to the same high school as you. Maybe my mum will still let me come over on the weekends? We both know she can't leave your mum." he said hopefully.

"Maybe, maybe, maybe," she sighed and pulled away from him. "Promise me, that once we graduate, we'll live together and go to uni?" Liz looked at him, a tear running down her cheek.

He reached over to wipe it away, "I don't plan on not seeing you until we graduate."

" Just promise me Luke."

"I promise you, Elizabeth. I will never leave you again after this. I will see you on holidays and weekends" he placed his hands on her cheeks and kissed her forehead softly.

"Lukey! Let's get going!" Jack yelled over as he walked to the car.

Liz took a shaky breath before giving him another hug. She stepped back and started to walk back to her mum. Luke watched her, his heart throbbing with pain.

It was the last time he saw her for five years.
