~ Chapter 8 - When ~

I feel like I should stop getting my hopes up in the morning. I honestly feel quite betrayed by Karin, my nurse. She keeps waking me up in the mornings with the promise of food. However, "I'm sorry, you slept through breakfast," or " We don't have toast today but I brought you some porridge, " became quite common. It was quite sad and today was no different: the promise of food, only to have my hopes and dreams dashed by the reality of hospital food. (Which, by the way, isn't the nicest food on the planet.) You would think that in a hospital that the Ohtori family run, there would be some rich people food, but no; disgusting, lumpy porridge is what I get. Karin noticed my pity party and as she left and as I got over feeling sorry for myself, she informed me that I was free to leave this afternoon.

That got my attention.

I hadn't seen the host club since they last visited me and then left suddenly, promising that they would find me a place to stay. I don't doubt that they could, of course. I'm sure they could set me up in a BnB or a motel of some sort but, maybe, they had forgotten about me. The hosts are busy after all, they have a host club to run, and being rich doesn't look easy, at least from what is seen in the anime and manga. I was so invested in my thoughts I didn't even hear my door open and a visitor walk in.

"Am I interrupting something?" Kyoya asked.

"Oh no! Of course not. What do you need?"

"I just came to inform you of your housing situation. You remember Haruhi Fujioka? Her father has allowed you to stay there for a couple of weeks until a more permanent home is found. Of course, you will still have to pay off your hospital bills."

"I wouldn't have it any other way." I always pay my dues. I hate owing people something, even if it's just a favour. (And I don't really fancy being in debt to Kyoya, who knows how much interest I could rack up.)

"I admire your attitude, for that, maybe I won't charge you interest." He mused.

"Um, thank you?"

"You're most welcome. Actually, your hospital bill has in fact been paid."

"Really by who?" You're telling me that someone paid my bills for me? Fat chance.

"By me."

Wait . What?! Why would be do that? He has nothing to gain. And Kyoya only does things when he has something to gain.

"I imagine you're thinking about why I did such a thing. Honestly I shocked myself too. But, you're interesting (Y/N)."

That sounds like he wants to study me. But weird but okay?

He continued, "Obviously, you'll have to pay the debt back to me. I'm sure we can find something for you to do. You see I run this host club, and actually one of the members also has a debt, but it's a debt to the club more so than me personally. The point is, we found something for Haruhi to do. I'm sure we could also find you a job to."

Great. This probably won't end well.

Wait...

Maybe it will. I've read enough Ouran High School Host Club fanfiction to know how this ends.

It ends with me in a reverse harem.

Oh to be a poor commoner in debt. Watch out Haruhi, I'm coming for your men!

"By the way, I need you to pack your things, were leaving to your new 'home' in ten minutes."

After that the doctor came in and completed my final check up. He warned me that I would have to be back soon, something about difficulty breathing, it was hard to understand his broken English but I'm glad he tried. I walked to the bathroom with my things and changed into one of the outfits the Hitatchiins bought me. Leggings and a hoodie, comfortable and surprisingly, they fit me pretty well. Which partly worried me. How on earth did those twins get my sizes right?

After leaving the hospital, Kyoya motioned to a...

Is that a LIMOUSINE?!

Oh my goodness, I'm going to be driven around in a limousine. Oh how fancy! I got in and thanked the driver. Kyo began to speak with the driver in Japanese and so I tuned them out - it's not like I would be able to understand them anyway. Instead I focused my attention on the rucksack beside me. It was my carry on luggage from the plane. I'm surprised it survived, even if slightly charred. In it was my passport; my OHSHC manga; the phone the Hitatchiins gave to me, along with another outfit; the book Tamaki gave to me; the notebook and pen Haruhi gifted me; some sweets Hunny donated; the small elephant shuffle Mori gave to me, (whose new name is Squiff), and finally my pride and joy, my camera. I meticulously checked the sense for cracks of scratches. It wasn't the poshest camera but it was relatively expensive. I saved up the whole of last year and I got a summer job so that I could afford my baby (My camera is obviously my baby).

I was so busy looking through my photos, I didn't feel the car stop.

"Is that your family?"

"Yeah, I loved them so much They were great people."

"So you can remember them?"

AH SH*T! ABORT! ABORT! AMNESIA REMEMBER!

"Bits and pieces, they cared about me a lot. I remember the last time I saw them on the plane. We went down together, hugging, finding comfort in each other's arms." I saved myself because although I am  idiot, I am also a genius. I am an idiotic genius. Or a genius idiot. I'm not sure but whatever I am safe now. besides, it's not like I lied. I am telling the truth. Just not all of the truth.

The car door opened and I got out followed by Kyo. We were at an apartment complex.

'Huh,' I thought, 'It looks exactly how it does in the anime.'

Kyoya led me to Haruhi's door and rang the doorbell.

"Just so you know, as an advanced warning, Ranka is very... Eccentric. You remember how Tamaki is, that's also how Haruhi's father is. Except he doesn't like Tamaki very much, so try not to mention him." Kyoya warned. I knew all this already but it was nice sentiment.

"Thanks Kyo. By the way, the twins put your number on my phone so I will text you."

"Is that a promise?" He chuckles.

"No, it's a threat." I laugh along with him.

We laughed together until the door was suddenly the door opened by Ranka - Haruhi's eccentric dad.

"Oh my! Hello Kyoya! Is this Miss (Y/N)? You are very pretty!"

"Thank you very much. You are also very pretty." I replied, feeling slightly flustered at the compliment.

"Awww! You're so polite! This will be so fun!" He cried grabbing me and dragging me into a hug.

"Thanks... But... Can't... Kyoya... Help..."

"Ranka I suggest that you let go of (Y/N) before she suffocates."

"Oh of course!" He let go of me and I inhaled deeply to regain my breath. He continued, "Come in, come in! Haruhi's just at the supermarket but she'll be back soon. Bring your things in dear!"

We all walked inside.

This. This will be fun.
