I couldn't blame them for not trusting me. Afterall, I was leading them into the sewer. Luckily, only I knew the way around the sewer. I had to know every inch of this place or else I wouldn't be able to escape tight situations. Plus, I always liked being surrounded by water, and the sewers were the largest body of water in String City.
"Where are we going?" Complained Nocturnus. He was all the way near the back so everyone heard him. "We've been going in circles for hours."
"Actually," Cain piped up, "We've been taking multiple turns and going straight for prolonged periods of time, making it impossible to be going in circles. Also, it's only been about forty five minutes."
"You wanna go, smart ass?" Nocturnus and Cain stopped in their tracks, and Cain turned to face Nocturnus. Well, as much as he could with the hood on his face.
"Not particularly, since you'd be walking away from and fight with multiple injuries to your arms, face, and stomach." Nocturnus did not appreciate that. He was becoming visibly angry, but Cain kept going in. "Need I remind you who took off a chunk of the building so we could escape?"
"You nearly killed us! Plus, if Kristy wasn't looking for you, we probably wouldn't even be down here."
"No, you most certainly wouldn't. You would be stuck in that tower of terror and probably dead in a gutter."
Just as Cain finished this, Nocturnus took a wild swing at Cain's face, which he dodged with ease. He leaned his body so that the punch just grazed his hood, and he threw a punch straight into the gut of Nocturnus, forcing him to double over. Cain took this opportunity and move lighting fast behind him, grabbing onto the arm that attempted to hit him. He held it behind Nocturnus' back, twisting it and forcing him to stay bent over. Bruce, Cece, and I were watching in awe. I looked at Cece and saw that she shielded her face from the fight. I wonder what's her problem?
"Now, what was that for?"
"For you being the cause of all my recent problems." A ribbon of shadows shot out from Nocturnus' twisted arm directly aimed at Cain's face. He attempted to quickly dodge this the same way as the punch, but the scythe clipped the top of Cain's head, forcing the hood off of his face.
Cain let go of Nocturnus and turned around, covering his face with his hands. We all watched as he quickly stepped near the wall, into the shadows saying "No no, not again, I can't, not again." I couldn't see much of his face, but from what I could tell, there were old bloodied bandages covering his face wrapped around the middle part his head. He put his hood back on and came back into the dim light of the sewers. "Sorry about that, I just like my hood on."
"Didn't account for that, huh?" Nocturnus taunted. "Didn't you say you were gonna hurt my fa-" But before he could finish Cain delivered a quick jab to Nocturnus' eye. "JESUS! What was that for?" He yelled as he stumbled back, holding one of his eyes.
"For messing with my hood. I will admit I forgot about the scythe, but the end result is still the same."
I piped up and said, "If you two are done messing around, let's go. We're almost there."
Cece let her hands fall from her face. "Where exactly is 'there'?"
"Home sweet home."
"Wait, you live in the sewer?" Bruce asked. It was the first time I heard him say anything since the tower. "Doesn't it get lonely down here?"
We kept walking forward and came to the sheet that seperated my home from the rest of the sewers. "Not necessarily. I live down here with one other person." I passed through the sheet first with the rest of my party in tow. The sheet revealed a huge open complex with passageways in almost every direction and stairs to a second floor with just as many. It was a two floor cylinder, really, with archways covered with sheets to denote doors. "The passageways around String City are down here. Kitchen, bathroom, and bedroom are upstair."
