Luke's Point of ViewMusic was blaring and people were falling over themselves in a drunken stupor. I was sat watching my friends drink themselves sick, but the only thing on my mind was him. Where was he? He said he would be here. As I ventured throughout the house, there was no sign of him anywhere. Was he even here? I pulled out my phone to text him.
'Hey where are you?'
Within a minute I felt my phone vibrate in my pocket. Raising it to my field of vision, I saw the notification.
'On the balcony x'
I looked around before making my way to the balcony. As soon as I saw his silhouette I felt myself relax a bit. He turned around, greeting me with a hug. Nobody was around to see us. In that moment all I could see was him. The way the moon illuminated his eyes and shone on his face. In the dark he glowed like the sun and lit up my world.
"We can't keep doing this," He started, "I love you, I don't wanna hide us away."
"We have to. At least right now." He looked at me in what I could only interpret as disbelief. The darkness of the night made it hard to read his emotions. Not even the radiance of the moon could aid me.
"Who says we have to?"
"Me. I'm just not ready to, I'm sorry."
"I don't get you, Luke. You say you want something but do the exact opposite."
"Can we please just drop this?" I couldn't keep on going on with the conversation. He would only continue to press if I didn't stop him.
The rest of the night is fuzzy to me, like it was all a blur. Only bits and pieces stick out in my memory: stumbling into the house, slumping onto my bed, him laying next to me.
Your Point of View
I could feel that the night was coming to an end. People had already begun to leave and go home, some calling cabs for those who were too hammered to get themselves home safe. Luke was among the group of people who was nearly out of it completely. He was trying to convince me that he could drive himself home, that he wasn't that drunk.
I was the one that took him back to his apartment that night. The windows of my car were slightly rolled down, the cool breeze washing over the two of us. He was slouched over himself when I pulled into the lot. I made sure he got in safely, him grabbing onto me for stability as he walked. His sand colored curls were all over the place, his pupils were dilated beyond belief and he reeked of liquor but somehow he was still charming. I made sure he got safely in his apartment, and when I tried to leave he wouldn't let me.
"No, stay. Please," The rough skin of his calloused fingertips making contact with my arm, "just lay with me for a little while."I couldn't retaliate. As much as I wanted to go home, I wanted to feel his radiating body heat against my skin. I wanted to feel him next to me. It was a rare occurrence that we didn't have to hide, and who would have known if we would have the opportunity again. I climbed into the bed right next to him, him shifting his position to be closer to me. He almost instantly started to drift off to sleep, ocean eyes fluttering shut. He looked angelic. He was putting me through Hell and back with all of this hiding but that couldn't keep me from admiring his sleeping form. As time passed on, Luke fell fast asleep, head heavily laid on the pillow. Carefully, I rose off of the bed and left his apartment, making sure the door was locked behind me.
On my drive home, I was lost in thought. I love Luke so fucking much but I'm giving 100 percent and he's giving 50. If he really loved me, he would be willing to love me openly. Not hidden from everyone, tucked away from watchful eyes. If he loved me, he would risk it all for us, no?
It's not fair. Why can't we be ourselves?
