It was a dark night, the wind blew through the forest as you ran. Why were you running? That was a good question, with a lengthy story to it. But to sum it up, you owed someone some money, and they want it now. If not the money, then a multitude of other things.

And you didn't want to stick around and find out what that meant.

So you ran, the sound of panting and crunching leaves filled the silent forest. But it wasn't just yours, it was also the people chasing you. Thank Gods they didn't have cars, you'd probably be dead by now, or probably worse off.

Out of breath and lungs stinging, you stopped behind a tree, doing your best to keep as quiet as possible while trying to catch your breath. You leant against the tree, waiting for the others to run past, or maybe catch you.

A flashlight appeared, flying across the trees in front of you, and you held your breath as the people got closer, now at walking pace. You could hear them mumbling, to themselves or others, you weren't entirely sure.

They stopped next to the tree, scanning the area around them for you. Still holding your breath you moved around the large trunk, watching them. You stopped when you were hidden, waiting for the person to leave.

It felt like forever, but finally, they grumbled and turned around. You let out a sigh and leant onto the tree once again, however this time something crimpled under you. Freezing, you turned back to the trunk, finding a piece of paper stuck to it. You pulled it off and took in it's details.

It was torn, covered in dirt, and had scribbles covering it. A bunch of trees and a tall stick figure, with some words next to it. It was too dark to read. You frowned slightly, what was a piece of paper, a child's drawing by the looks of it, doing out in the forest?

You thought for a moment, before a chill ran up your spine. It felt like you were being watched. Carefully, you put the strange drawing back and glanced around the area. No one was around, not even the guy chasing you before. You were alone.

So why did you feel so exposed?

With a shrug, you decided you should probably head back to town, maybe to a friend's house to stay for a while. So you started walking.

And then you felt something wrap around your ankle.

You yelped as your leg was pulled from under you and you were dragged across the ground, before being lifted into the air. Everything was upside down, your head spun from hitting the ground, and you couldn't shake off the sudden dizziness and nausea. A loud static filled your ears and you tried covering them, but it didn't stop the noise.

"What are you doing in my forest?" A deep voice asked, and all you could see was a pale white face. You tried to make out the person's features, but the static seemed to be affecting your vision as well. You let out a groan and rubbed your head, letting the question circle in your mind for a moment.

"I was... Running.." You let out a sigh as your mind started to work. -Great, did I run into some cranky old man's territory?-

"Running from what?" The voice asked again, and you turned your gaze back to his face. The static slowly died down, now just a murmur in the air, and you let out a gasp at the faceless creature in front of you.

You were hanging upside down, a few feet from the leaf-covered ground. A very tall, very slender man was holding you up by what looked like a dark arm. Or was it a tentacle? You couldn't tell in the darkness of the woods.

"What were you running from?" The creature asked again, his voice was calm, but you had a feeling he would snap if you did something he didn't like.

"A... person. Someone I owed some money to... I didn't mean to.. Hide in your forest." You said slowly, still taking in the creature's appearance. Human looking, besides the unnatural height and lack of face.

"Of course... I never understand your human needs of wealth." The thing put you down, almost gently, "Then leave if you are no longer being chased."

"I... Oh, thank you." You turned your gaze back to his face, "Can I ask what you are?"

"That's a bit of a rude question." The figure stated, before leaning down to your level, "But since you've been unnaturally calm, I suppose I could tell you."

You nodded and he stood straight again, fixing up his tuxedo, "I am what people call the Slenderman. I live here in these woods, and all of those that see me die."

"I see... Well, why didn't you kill me then?" You tilted your head, confused.

"You respected my drawing."

"Your drawing...?" You thought for a moment, "Oh, you mean that paper on the tree?"

The Slenderman was quiet for a moment, if he had eyes he was probably staring at you, "... Yes... That paper on the tree.."

"I- Um, sorry. I didn't mean it like-"

"Just leave my forest. And tell no one of your encounter."

"Right." You jumped to your feet, brushing the leaves and dirt off your (f/c) clothes and started walking away.

"And (Y/N)."

You stopped, how did he know your name? You hadn't told him.

"Y-Yeah?"

"If you ever need to hide again, I suggest the old house west of here. It saves me having to find you again and killing you. Because if you come back I will kill you. This is your only chance."

"Oh.. Right. Thank you Slenderman."

The figure nodded and with a sudden burst of static, was gone. You blinked, rubbing your eyes, before shrugging and running back to town.

Looks like you were lucky this time. But what about the next time?

I'm sorry this first chapter was shit ;-; I've had writers block since I went on my hiatus but I knew I had to start writing and power through it. Otherwise what would I give my fans? Nothing? No, my hiatus is to give me more time to write and less stress on when I need to update (besides the doom coming March)

Anyway, I really am sorry about the shittiness of this chapter, as you can clearly see I've left room for a part 2 so I can try again and actually work on it.

It's just a little hard as well, since these characters are murderers and crazy and what not. Let's be honest, in the real world they'd just fucking kill you, so I have to write it in a way that makes sense that they would like/respect you enough to keep you alive. (i.e you didn't rip off Slender's page and keep it/destroy it, you put it back to it's respective place as carefully as possible)

But yeah, I'm trying guys, it's just really hard... But I'll get there, tbh my motivation has kind of been dead for the past two months (I'm blaming it solely on undiagnosed depression – undiagnosed because I haven't been to see anyone to confirm it because I know it will eventually pass, that's just how my mind works)

Anywayyyy I'll leave you now, since you just read a bunch of un-necessary excuses for my trash writing, and I'll get on to the next chapter. (Also I'm gonna date my work so you know when I wrote this. Because none of my A/Ns are gonna be written when I update the book but whenever I finished writing the chapter, which in this case is a few months before the update).

RJ Out!!!
