I'm goin home

Avery sat silently at the bus stop. She had decided she was going home, she was going to go see her sister and her two best friends. She hoped they didn't hate her to much.

Once the right bus had stopped in front of her she quickly grabbed her military bag and dragged it onto the bus with her. She earned a couple strange looks from the people on the bus but she shrugged it off.

"Amy?" Someone asked form across the isle. She looked over to he met with and Asian boy. "Marines" She simply smiled and turned back to look out the window. She couldn't help but let her mind wonder, of course thinking about the crazy red neck she called her best friend.

"Are you coming over tonight?" Avery asked, Daryl and Avery were sulking around the woods, not sure what to do. This was their normal, wake up, go to school, go home, hang out with one another. Honestly Avery wouldn't have it any other way.

It had been a couple days since she was able to hang out with Daryl though. Her mother was really sick. Her daddy just told her it was the flu but she had been sick for almost a week and by now she shouldn't have it anymore.

"How's yer momma?" Daryl asked questionably. "She ain't good" Avery stated looking down at her feet. "It's, isn't" Daryl corrected with a smile on his face. Avery had hung out with Daryl so much she was starting to talk like him.

"Did she go to the doctors?" He asked, by now Avery and him were sat in their normal spot. There was an old bridge that hung near the water that they would both sit on and dangle their feet into the water. "Yeah, daddy just said she's got the flu" Avery replied. Daryl didn't say anything but nodded his head in an understanding way. "You never answered my question" she said softly looking up at her newly forming best friend.

"Oh ah, I don't know, my dad was mad about me bein out so late last night" Daryl replied and scratch the back of his neck. It was when Daryl raised his hand that she realized the bruise formed at the top of his rib cage, just below the armpit. Avery gasped and scooted closer to him. "He did this to you last night?" She asked going to raise her hand to touch the bruise but of course Daryl flinched back.

"Yeah" he said softly and looking down at the water. Avery looked at the boy sadly. His hair we just freshly cut, thanks to Avery's mother. Avery's mother had started allowing Daryl to come over more often, only when Avery's dad wasn't home or was in bed. She would feet him and give him any other necessary things he needed.

"I'm sorry" Avery said sadly. She always felt bad for the boy, it wasn't fair. "Let's head back, I gotta head home and check on my momma" Avery said and standing up then sticking out her hand to help Daryl up.

Avery quickly snapped herself out of her thoughts as she looked out the window, trying to recognize where she was. She looked up at the road signs to see "Kings County" she sighed as he only had a couple stops before she was home. She was beyond nervous. It's been three months since she's seen her sister or her crazy father.

Her father was a nasty man, ever since her mother passed away she was forced to live with her fathers wrath. He blamed her for her mother's death even though is was the disgusting disease that ate away and killed her mother. Her father blamed her for not taking good enough care of her. But being twelve years old and having to go to school full time and also take care of her sick mother was hard.

Daryl wasn't allowed to come over, her mother didn't want to risk her father finding out. Of course when her father was at work Daryl would sneak into the house with her and sit with Lisa until he saw the headlight shine through the large bay window next to the driveway and quickly sneak off out of the bedroom window.
