[For the first time]
"Yume, I want you to go to your school to take your papers back tomorrow."
My jaw dropped at hearing what my dad said. He wants me to go to school tomorrow to take my exam papers? I've never stepped into the school before. Sure, I've been in front of my school once, JUST ONCE.
For what reason would my parents want me to go to school for?
"Why dad? It's not like I need tutoring or anything. I'm doing perfectly fine with my studies!" I reasoned.
It wasn't like I didn't want to go to school, don't get me wrong. I just don't see a reason for me to go.
Mum said, "Yume, I know we've been keeping you in this house for quite a while now, and the both of us decided that we should let you go to school like a normal teenager and make friends normally."
I sighed in defeat, it's hard to talk my parents out of something once they decide on it. I finished the rest of my dinner and went back to my room. The moment I closed my bedroom door I clicked my tongue.
"Tch."
First it was those boring exam papers, now I have to go to school?
I went to my closet and dug out my uniform that I haven't worn yet. Not even once. I took a shower and brushed my teeth, then called it a day.
~~~
"Yume-sama, it's time to wake up... You need to retrieve your papers as your parents have instructed." as my maid shook me, attempting to wake me up.
I sat up and sighed, I can't believe I actually have to go to school today for the first time. I changed into my uniform and headed to school. The school that I go to is called the Four Stars Academy, it works a bit differently from the other schools.
In any case, this school is the best school in Japan. Many students who graduated from Four Stars Academy are guaranteed a smooth sailing life in terms of job opportunities and other job aspects. Even if you were kicked out of Four Star Academy before you even graduated, you will still be considered as a valuable asset since it's just that hard to get into the school itself.
The campus itself is quite huge, and all students stay in their own dorm. The higher your rank is within the school, the more perks you get. Four Stars Academy cares about your results the most, that's just how unfair it is.
It didn't take me long to get to the school, since it was only a couple of minutes worth of walking. I took a look at the school building, and I said to myself, "Did it become even bigger the last time I came? Or is it just me?"
I took a deep breath and took the first step into the school. I looked for the message that had the instructions on where to go, my dad sent me that since he normally collects it for me.
Yume, you need to go to the hall where everyone is going to assemble. The invigilator that was there when you sat for your exams will be waiting at the entrance of the hall, she will guide you afterwards. Good luck!
I sighed and headed towards the hall. On the way there, I saw a lot of students wearing the same uniform as I did. Although there were a few that were wearing a different uniform? Lots of students were looking at them, I wonder if they're special.
I saw the invigilator as I approached the entrance of the hall, she saw me and guided me to a special seat in the hall. I was sitting at the first row with the students who were wearing different uniform. Even the chairs that we were sitting on looked different from the rest of the students' chairs.
I saw a person walking to the podium, I'm just going to assume that's the Principal. I guess he's going to give a speech and release the results?
"Welcome students. Congratulations on finishing your mid-year examinations as of yesterday. Every teacher in this school has been working hard last night marking all of your papers and tallying them up. We are happy to announce that no students will be expelled this time round." The Principal said monotonously, and majority of the students heaved out a sigh of relief.
Right, every time we have an exam, all students are required to pass all subjects in order to stay in the school. If you fail even one subject, you will be kicked out immediately, no negotiations or appeals whatsoever.
"Let's proceed to announce the top 20, starting from rank 20."
For every name that was called out, the applause became increasingly louder. Especially starting from the ninth place, the whole hall was applauding so loudly. I thought my eardrums were about to burst, I had to cover them starting from the sixth place.
However, this caught my attention. The Principal stopped announcing after the second place. I looked around the hall and everyone was silent. I guess I can safely assume that the Principal isn't making a mistake, but why is there no rank 1?
Does it not exist?
And they didn't even call my name, I guess I'm not in the top 20? My parents never tell me what my rank is. They never do, and I never really bothered to find out. All is well as long as I don't get expelled right?
The invigilator came back with my papers and I took it from her after thanking her. As everyone started leaving the hall, I did so as well.
I stretched my body and thought to myself, 'What should I do now?'
I could go for class, although I have no idea what my class is. I don't even have my timetable. I could go home right now, but that'd be boring.
I ended up deciding that I should try and look for the office and ask for my timetable. But I got lost. That's when I saw a group of people coming towards my direction, they were the ones that were sitting at the same row with me.
One of the girls asked me, "Are you lost?"
