As we’re driving, I’m still thinking of the reason why he has to go home.  I just keep looking on the road.

“Aaliyah please don’t ignore me.” He is shifting his gaze between me and the road.

“I am not. I’m just thinking.” I said still not looking at him.

“Look, we’ll talk about this when I get back okay?” he said as his hand held mine.

Your Guardian Angel of The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus is playing. It’s our song or I suppose was our song. I can just remember how he used to sing this for me. He used to tell me everything, from his achievements, to his failures but something really feels wrong with him right now. I don’t know what it is.  What I know is I need to find out what it is whether he tells it to me or I have to find it out myself.

I just looked at him and offered a small smile. He then stopped in front of our office’s entrance where Mia is standing waiting for me.

As we reached the office, no one is around. It’s like I mistakenly went to work on a weekend. Mia and I continued walking. I have this weird feeling about what’s happening because aside from the fact that no one is in the office, Mia doesn’t even look bothered, knowing her, she should’ve panicked and screamed hysterically and pulled me out of the building but she is so calm. Just when I opened the door I saw everyone smiling at me. Balloons everywhere, there’s a cake in the table and someone popped some confetti.

“Congratulations!!!!” they all shouted.

I am shocked and I looked at Mia. She just smiled and shrugged. She knew what’s going to happen. I was like a winner of a beauty pageant, my jaw dropped; my eyes are teary, one of my hands covering my mouth while the other one seems to be wiping a tear that will be falling anytime.

Mr. Roberts, the Vice president of Operations for the company walked in front of me and tapped my shoulder.

“Why do you look surprised?  You did a really good job for the past 2 years. You should have expected this coming.” He said laughing as he continued tapping my shoulder.

I’m still speechless until he cleared his throat which got my attention.

“Okay everyone; let’s hear the speech from our new Design and Marketing Manager, Alliyah Caress Montenegro!” He stepped aside and led the crown to cheer.

As soon as everyone is settled waiting for whatever I’m going to say, I cleared my throat.

“Well to be honest, I really don’t know what to say; but thank you everyone for your support. To my team who stayed with me through my sleepless nights of designing,” everyone laughed

“To our very helpful maintenance who never gets tired of emptying our trash bins due to the amount of crumpled paper we’ve thrown just to complete our project” everyone again burst out laughing.

“And of course to our bosses who always believed in us. Thank you so much and let’s all enjoy.” I raised my glass to say cheers.

“So Madam” Mia coughed. “I think you need to grab your things and transfer to your new office.” She smirked.

“Thank you Mia, I won’t be able to do it without you.” I smiled and hugged her tightly.

“You deserve it but thanks anyways.” She laughed.

I packed my things from my old office to my new one. As I reached the door, I looked at the Name Plate hanging on it.

Design and Marketing Manager

Alliyah Caress Montenegro

I just smiled to myself and still trying to have everything sink in. I know I have worked hard for this. I can’t count how many sleepless nights I had, how many weekends I have sacrificed, and how much quality time I did not have with Jake. I know that I will have more responsibilities but it will never be a stress for me since this is my big dream.

The question is how I can tell Jake about this promotion. How can I tell him that I don’t want to quit this? That I can’t quit and I’ll never quit a dream that I have been dreaming for so long, the dream that I’ve worked hard for, the dream that completes me as a person.  I do love him but I just can’t stand the thought of me not working in this industry or for me not working at all. I need to talk to him about it. We need to work things out.

My day went through fast. I unpacked my stuff. It’s a glass room, my table is fairly big, a nice computer, coffee maker, a couch and a center table. It has a relaxing aura due to the cream painting and indoor plants.  I had a meeting with my team and worked on finalizing the project that was assigned to us before I went home with Mia.

As we arrived home, I decided to just lay down my bed. I looked at the ceiling of my room and thinking what would be the best action to be done in my situation.
