"What?!" I whisper back to him shocked."Yeah, listen. I can smell them. I'll be back in a few minutes if I'm not there by the time they're at the house, they're going to search for me and they might find you. I'll be back, okay?" I nod back at him, then I watch as he slips out of the treehouse. I look out the window, and I slowly see his figure fade.
I must've fallen asleep. I woke up, and I was back at the house. I realized I was on the couch; I turned to face the tv and I was surprised to see Dylan with a worried face. Then, I heard yelling.
"We have to leave someday! We can't just stay here!" Milo growled, but Ziron growled louder.
"C'mon Milo, you know we can't do that! We're going to get into big trouble!"
"Nothing is impossible, Dad. You've always said that and now it's not true?!"
"I don't know Milo! I've tried okay?! Christ! I've tried all my life to see if we could escape but it's better off if we stay here."
"Dad, I want to see the rest of the world. I'm getting tired of staying here all the damn time! I want to experience what life has to offer and now that I have Sapphire, I need to go someday."
"I don't know, son. I don't." Ziron walks off to his room. Leaving Milo heated. Then he starts to cry.
"Mom, We can't stay here. You know that."
"Yes, I know dear." Evette pats Milo on the back then walks into the kitchen.
I turn to Dylan. His green eyes fall to the ground. He shrugs then walks off into his room. I sit up and look around. The house was filled with candles, and the sun was starting to set.
"Looks like you're up." Milo walks towards me and plops himself on the couch. His eyes were red from crying.
"Did you sleep well?" He notices me staring and covers his eyes.
"Yup. Thanks for carrying me here."
"Yeah, no problem." Silence starts to fill the room with the occasional clanking coming from the kitchen.
"Milo." My voice rips the silences.
"Can we go to your room?" He takes his hand off of his face and nods.
He gets up and starts walking in the direction of his room. I follow closely behind. Milo touches the doorknob, and the door opens with a loud creak.
"Here's my room." Surprisingly his room was neat and tidy.
"My mom makes me clean, it bothers the crap outta her if the house isn't clean." He scratches the back of his ears. I take a step in, and he closes the door. I sit on a beanbag in his room.
"How long have I been sleeping?"
"Oh, it's the next day."
"What?! What time is it?" I say jumping up from my seat.
"Relax, it's only four in the morning." Milo sits on his bed and slowly leans back.
"Aren't you going to sleep, Milo?"
"I've already slept, I have a terrible sleeping pattern." He looks up to the ceiling.
I walk over to his bed, and I lay down beside him. What am I doing? Sapphire Moralas stop! My heart's beating out of my chest as I lay beside him.
"What happened to the men?"
"They just came to give supplies. But after they left my dad and I had had a small argument."
"How long was I in the treehouse?"
"Maybe four hours? I tried coming to the treehouse as fast as I could but the men in suits just wouldn't leave. I'm sorry."
"No, don't be. It's not your fault." Milo sits up and lays down on my lap.
I sit up and prop myself on one of his pillows. It smelled like sweet cologne. I look down at Milo, and I start to run my hand through his hair. His hair was still soft and almost long enough for me to braid. I decided to touch his ears again. They slightly twitched as my fingers grazed them. Milo opens his eyes. He's so close. I saw his eyes brighten, then he smiled.
I had touched his hair for a good hour before I heard his breathing change and his lips slightly apart. Even then, I kept rubbing his ears. The next thing I knew, my hand found their way to his face. I placed my hands on his cheeks and I softly made circles from his temples back to his cheeks. Sapphire stop. You're going to get hurt. But I didn't stop. I stared at Milo, and I saw his immaculate eyes stare back at me. I ran my thumb over his bottom lip as he placed his hand on my waist.
We slowly started to close the space between us.
