I swallowed hard and my breathing became shallow."Yes, of course." I didn't deny their request, otherwise they would find me suspicious.
I got out of my car and followed the men as they inspected my car. They were looking for something; it was obvious. They opened all my doors and looked underneath the seats. Black gloves covered their hands to avoid fingerprints. Then they gathered together and talked amongst themselves.
"Can you open your trunk?" One of the men turned to me.
"Sure." I opened the trunk as I watched them close my doors one by one.
Slowly they gathered behind me, and I was growing with anxiety. Milo's in the cooler, if they search in there we're dead. I took my keys out. Luckily I was bringing my spare keys, and they had other old keys bunched together. I knew exactly which key was the one for my trunk but I slowly took each key and tried fitting them in the keyhole.
"You gotta be kidding me." I said under my breath covering my disguise. I fit key after key skipping the real one.
"How long is this going to take?"
"Hey, listen. I have lots of keys so unless you want to get this over with, let me do my thing." I turn back to the keys.
"Great now you made me lose my place." I held time for Milo to escape.
Behind me I heard one of the men flick the other in the head. This should be enough. I grab the real key and unlock the trunk.
"Hallelujah!" I shouted and lifted it up.
I moved out of the way as the men inspected the contents of my trunk. These men were pretty dumb. We could've just looked through the inside of my car. Dumbasses. Finally, they made their way to my cooler. My heart pounded. They lifted the lid and to their surprise, the cooler was filled with ice and drinks.
"Alright, that's it. Thank you Ma'am. Sorry for wasting your time." Was all they said before hurrying off to their cars and driving off.
Once I knew they were some distance away, I sighed in relief.
"Ahhhhhh! What the hell?!" I held my chest.
"At least I didn't get caught." Milo opened the door, and I saw his stupid face peering at me.
"This was risky. Good thing you held out enough time for me to get out of that cooler." He got out and patted my head.
"I'm sorry, Sapphire. I didn't mean for this to happen."
"It's not your fault, Milo. Let's just keep going." I got into the car and drove.
The sky was pitch black. All the colour drained and washed out as navy blue was painted across the canvas.
"Wanna play I spy?" Milo shook my arm.
"No, not really. There isn't much to spy on anyways."
"Alright I'll start first." He continued despite my rejection.
"Milo, I said there was nothing to-"
"I spy with my little eye, something that is... bright blue."
Bright blue? I look around and there were the lights. They hovered in lines leading into the forest.
"Milo."
"Yeah?"
"Let's go."
