Prologue
“Hurry up! Oh shit.” I groan. This is the worst physical pain I ever had to suffer through.
The white walls are blurring together as he rolls me towards the room. My hands are securely surrounding my stomach as if trying to sooth the pain.
It has been five years since I met my husband and I must say, as cliché as it sounds, I don’t think I have ever been happier. Of course, in about a few more hours, I will be.
“Faster!” I yell again, inhaling and exhaling like the doctors told me.
“All right, Mrs. Ivy, here we are. Are we doing a natural birth, or would-”
“YES!” I say, interrupting what she has so say.
“Okay, we’re going to change you into this gown and have to lay back. Just keep taking those breaths.” She says, in a soothing tone.
No shit lady, keep breathing.
“Are you okay?” Emery asks, hesitantly.
My response is a glare as I changed into itchy blue hospital gown.
Lying back, I try to focus on the room – not that there is much to keep my mind occupied. I now lay in a single bed with a hard mattress and two squishy white pillows. There’s a black and white television with old style knobs hanging off the wall in the far right corner and a beige nightstand to the left of my bed. Nothing seems to fascinate me, as I start to count the cracks in the chipping walls, which are of course, white. Or they may be beige. Even though Emery wanted a private room, I wanted a normal hospital room. Mind you, I didn’t expect to go into labor while in Toronto.
“Oh God, Emery.”
“Yes?”
“Get the doctor.” I say quietly.
His face notably pales and his eyes widen. Scurrying out the door, and slamming into it, he yells out the hall for the doctor.
The doctor and two nurses come running into the room and spread my legs.
“Alright, Mrs. Ivy, three, two, one, and push!”

“Do you think we should wake them?”
“I don’t know, they look pretty comfortable.”
“But I’ve waited so long to speak to them!”
“Shut up.” I grumble. The people speaking are disturbing my sleep. I turn myself over and cuddle closer to my husband. My children, yes children, are being checked by the doctor to make sure everything is healthy.
The girl started giggling.
“Avi, be quiet, or I’m going to roast you alive.”
“I’m not Avi.” She says.
I open my eyes and see a young couple standing at the edge of my bed. They look exactly like my brother and sister-in-law.
Shaking my head, I yawn and stretch and wipe the excess sleep from my eyes. I must be more tired then I thought. Well, 7 hours of labor can do that to do.
I looked back at them now that my vision is clearer. “Holy shit! I’m seeing ghost.”
“Yeah, honey, we can do that.” Emery mumbles, and tries pulling me back down.
“Not like this I can.”
I was still staring at the couple in awe as they look at me with smiles. I felt the bed move as Emery sat up beside me.
