Outside Armistice, New Republic, Earth
01:00
~<><><>~
My pod slammed dug into the ground, the door automatically releasing, flying off its hinges. I tumbled out of it, landing on my hands and knees. I did a sweep of the area around me, the forest, searching for at least one of my fellow ODST teammates who might have landed in the same general area around me.
No such luck.
"Goddammit," I muttered to myself, pushing myself to my feet, turning towards my pod. I grabbed my BR-55 and M6C/SOCOM pistol from my pod, placing the pistol on my thigh, keeping the BR in my hands. I did another sweep of the area, searching for at least another of the two ODSTs that dropped with me.
Still nothing.
"Half-pint, you there?" I heard Ross say over the radio, his voice breaking slightly because of the static. It took me a moment to respond, my eyebrow twitching.
"Ross, I thought I told you not to call me that. Anyways, yeah, I'm here," I responded, walking around the fallen door to the pod, bringing up a satellite map on my visor, trying to figure out which direction the city, , was. During the drop, I got so turned around, I could barely tell you which direction was east.
I continued forward, heading in the correct direction. "Okay, okay," I heard his faint, barely audible, chuckle. "Remember what're we're here for. They dropped us, plus Lia and the twins just to do a sweep of the area. UNSC's using us to find their target. Avoid open combat," He said, his footsteps audible on the other side.
"I do hope you realize that I was the one that brieffed you guys when we recieved the damn mission," I responded, pushing my way through the trees and thick foliage, my eyes skimming over the area.
"What are you two arguing about, now?" Lia asked, entering our communication line.
"Nothing, Lia," Ross and I answered together.
I checked the map again, seeing that we were all grouping closer and closer together. I nodded to myself, shutting off my radio. I stopped in a small clearing, sweat already beading on my forehead. I searched the area for the others, seeing their faint outlines coming towards me.
It was only Lia and Ross, which I was fine with. The twins, Stone, and Aimee were dropped on the other side of the city. We were supposed to meet at a designated rally point inside the city, if at all possible. Maybe I made the wrong choice to seperate the team. But, I guess I won't know until something happens, right?
I rolled my shoulders, looking at the other two that would be occompanying on my side. Lia held the standard silenced SMG that's mostly used by us ODSTs, with a M6C pistol at her side. Ross held his sniper, and a pistol at his side. I nodded, shifting my BR slightly.
"We know what we have to do, right? Get in there, and lay the ground work for a future move that UNSC will play. Until we get the rest of our orders from whoever's orchestrating the mission. Clear?" I asked, looking at the two. I wasn't the LT, but, most of the time, they looked towards me for most things regarding missions. I don't know why, really. I figured Lia would be the one they'd look to.
"Clear," They both replied, nodding at me. I nodded, turning, facing towards the city once again. I continued forward, my thoughts drawing back to the incident five or six years ago, what happened here. How it changed me.
I shook my head, doing my best to push it out of my mind. I don't need to be distracted.
We approached the newly constructed wall surrounding the city, each of us scanning the area, watching for patrols and. Honestly, it wasn't worth the effor that was put into building the wall itself. It's not all that tall compared to people, and not all that well build.
