The boys as usual are screaming and fighting while Lois  is folding their clothes.  She's so stressed and overwhelmed that she couldn't even find the time to wear a top.  While preparing the boys' clothes, the phone suddenly rings.  The boys were asked to just pick it up but were to stubborn to do so.  The phone rang two more times until Malcolm picked it up.

Malcolm:   Hello?

Francis:   Young master Malcolm!

Malcolm:   Francis hi!!!

The ecstatic pre-teen shouts in excitement as he hears the voice of his older brother.

Francis:  I wrote you guys a long letter but I only have three minutes until they cut me off, so why don't you pass me onto the federal prosecutor (alluding to their mother)

The boys transfer Francis to Lois while they eavesdrop.

Lois:  Hi Francis!

Francis:   Hi mom.  School's been great.  My new roommate just taught me how to kill a mice with a hammer and between that and the testosterone I think things are going well.

Lois:  Aw honey it's only until summer.

Francis:  No worries.  Hey I was wondering if you and dad could send my allowance 2 weeks earli-    (cut off)

Lois:  Are you smoking?

The disappointed mother cuts off her oldest son and then goes on a brief rant on how she and her husband Hal struggled with the habit and how they always put the boys first to set them better positions.  Francis disobeying Lois is nothing new but still hurts.  If it wasn't bad enough that her youngest sons at home overwhelm her and stress her out, her oldest son Francis doing the same out of her watch makes things worse.  If that wasn't big of a surprise,  she waits another in the form of a doorbell.

(Doorbell rings)
