CHAPTER 16
"Happy birthday!" I let Nat inside Everett's house and hug him tightly.
"Thankyou." I say in his ear as he puts me back on the ground. I walk into the living room and hear Nat's footsteps behind me, following me. Today, obviously is my birthday. My 20th birthday to be exact. This morning I woke up and found a note on my dresser saying 'Callie, I've decided to give you today off, so don't get into too much trouble. Oh, happy birthday - Everett.' Short and simple. Nothing like Everett. I didn't expect anything from him so it's a nice surprise to have the day off.
"I got you something." Nat says, grinning from ear to ear. He hands me a bright pink gift bag, I take it and smile at him. I pull out a dress and hold it in front of me. It was short, strappless and was turquoise blue. It has a thick silver band under the bust that turned into a small bow at the back. It was stunning. I fold the dress and slip it back into the bag before throwing myself at Nat.
"I love it!" I squeak, wrapping my arms and legs around him in a choke hold.
"I knew you would." I detangle myself and smile at him. "Why don't you try it on?" He suggests, grabbing the bag off the couch and handing it to me.
"Okay." I take it and bounce into my bedroom, closing the door behind me. I take the dress back out and examine it closely. It has a built in push up bra, so that's a bonus! I take my casual black sundress off and unclip my bra, sliding my new dress up over my legs. I hold the dress up with one hand and let my hair fall down my back in wavy curls after having my hair tied in a plait all day. I quickly look at myself in the mirror and notice how well the dress actually looks. I add some silver one strap heels for effect and walk out to Nat. He smiles at me when I walk out, running his eyes quickly over the dress before standing behind me and zipping me up.
"It looks fabulous on you." He smiles, now standing in front of me. I run my hand down the front of it, smiling down at it as if it could see how much I loved it.
"It's amazing." I say, looking back up at him.
"Everett called before and wants us at the office, apparently he's called the whole staff back for a meeting." He grumbles, grabbing my hair and moving a part of it to the front of my bare shoulders.
"Can I just chuck on some makeup?" I ask him, taking a small step towards my bedroom.
"Yeah, of course." He turns around and sits on the couch. I rush into my room and pull out my makeup bag, grabbing my powder and brush. I brush powder on my face, hiding my hideous bruise and apply some mascara, making my eyelashes extra long. I apply some light pink lip gloss and add a little bit of blush. I look down at my dress again, I should really change. I poke my head out of my bedroom and look over at Nat.
"I'm just going to change the dress." I say casually.
"No!" He shouts, causing me to look back at him in confusion. "We'll be late, just wear that baby cakes." I sigh loudly and walk out to him, grabbing his hand and leading him out the front door. It took no less than ten minutes to get to the office. Why was Nat rushing so much? I get out of his car and follow him into the lift, taking a hold of his hand again.
"I wonder what the meeting's about?" I ask, looking up at him.
"No idea." Nat shrugs, as the lift dings. I gasp as the door opens, showing me a tone of people standing in the office.
"Happy birthday!" They all shout, with smiles on their faces. I let Nat pull me out of the lift, a smug smile imprinted on his lips. I laugh breathlessly and hold a hand to my mouth. Completely shocked. And I know all these people? I watch in shock as everyone parts like the red sea, revealing a red haired girl. A very familiar red haired girl!
