Chapter 4
Landon led me through the same hallway after saying hi to his new roommate and telling him where to put his stuff. We ended up in the middle of the two forks.
"Okay, obviously, this is where the mail room is," he said while pointing at the mail boxes. "The girl's dorm is the right and the guy's is to the right so don't get mixed up or else you might walk into something quite unpleasant," he chuckled a little.
"Has that ever happened?" I asked while finding the white envelope that Samantha gave me. I pulled out a small key and stuck it in the key hole.
"Oh yes, many, many times. Sometimes, it's the other way around!" I smiled a little even though I didn't think it was really funny. Number one rule for a girl who likes a guy is smile when they make a joke. Whoa, I didn't like him... right? I glanced up to see his sea green eyes fixed on to me. I didn't need a boyfriend right after transferring here, but I have to admit that Landon is sort of sweet.
"Are you going to turn your key today?" he asked as a smile played on his lips. My cheeks turned red with chagrin and I turned back to my mailbox. Stupid, stupid Dae! How could a guy like that fall for a girl like you? My box was a standard black box with D. Lynch written on top. I turned my key in the mailbox while still yelling at myself mentally. All of a sudden, a huge mound of papers popped out of my mailbox and sprung out at me like a kangaroo.
"Oh my god!" I shrieked as I jumped back before I could be crushed by the avalanche. By the time it was finish, there was a messy stack of envelopes that ended at about my ankles with letters still sticking out of the box.
"Someone is a popular one," Landon said while winking at me before he went to his own mailbox. A mound of mail (smaller than mine though) came out of his but he was expecting this and neatly caught each one as they fluttered out of the box. He glanced at me and chuckled at my expression.
"You'll get used to it. Apparently, you're a popular demand." Was that sadness I detected in his eyes? I couldn't tell it flashed away before I could make sure.
"Sure I am. Which one of these have my room number on it?" I looked over my stack skeptically. I'm not sure anyone would be able to find it. Putting his mail in a large grocery bag, Land walked over to me with another. He looked at my pile carefully and pulled a letter from my hair. How did it get there? I glared at it knowing it'll seek its revenge as he threw it into the bag. He grabbed another letter with a pink bow tied to it.
"Here you go Miss AB20!" he said cheerfully while swiping the rest of the mail out of my arms and into the bag. Who knew mail could be so heavy? "Would you mind me showing you to your room?" Landon's expression was so hopeful that all I could do was shake my head yes and lace my arm through his as we started leaving; our bags rustling near our sides.
The hallway in the girl side was very much similar to that of the guys. The walls were plain black brick but it collided with the bright blue carpet almost perfectly. I looked at the doors as we passed reading the room numbers as we went. I wonder if I'll have a roommate. Will she like me? I hope she's not a total jerk.
Glancing up at Landon I asked, "Does everyone have a roommate?" His sea green eyes shined with humor.
"No, just the unlucky ones; like me." Apparently, his roommate (whose name is Josh) is nothing like him at all.
