Chapter 3
The campus was amazing, well minus the stares we were getting. Sheesh! Can't people mind their own business? It's not like I'm a giant pink elephant wearing a green tutu now am I? Instead of looking self conscious I just let them stare. Even though I did throw some glares at some people. Anyways, back to the campus. Large maple trees dotted the campus and beautiful statues lines the sidewalks like Gogoils on a castle. Beautiful beds of flowers were scattered around. The tall brick buildings had vines growing up them giving them a mystical aspect.
Suddenly, we stopped in front of a massive building. The whole front outside was pure glass and you could see straight into the building. "Well, here we are. I hope to see you around soon but I really must get back to work. If you start to feel light headed for any reason come by, got it?" said Mitch sternly.
"Yes, thank you so much for your help," I said while looking at me shoes.
"No problem kiddo. I'll see you around," Mitch said and walked off. I glanced back up at the building. Well, it's now or never. I opened the glass door and was hit with wall of cold air. I breathed in the smell of cinnamon as soon as I walked into the building. When you walk in you're immediately in this open space with table and chair spaced evenly though out the whole downstairs. People in the seats glanced up at me while I walked in.
Walking further down the hall I noticed that this part of the building was a lunch room type thing. In the middle of the dining area there's a large marble staircase heading to the second floor. I glided over to the staircase and headed up the stairs hesitantly. My hand was sliding on the silver railing. What if it was a mistake that I was accepted here? What if they'll send me back to the foster home? Worse, what if it wasn't a mistake and I have to live here knowing that there are others that deserved this more than me?
As my foot stepped on the last step I glanced up. The second floor actually reminded of a school. When you walk in there's a secretary or maybe a librarian desk facing towards the steps. The secretary/librarian was a middle aged man with blackish hair with glasses hanging precariously off his nose as he stared intently at his book. The lobby/library was huge with books in every crevice of the ceiling high bookcases and that still wasn't enough. Books lay in heaps around the bookcases but in orderly heaps. The librarian/secretary glanced up at me and smiled a very warm smile at me.
Walking over, I noticed the design on the carpets. It looked like it depicted some type of war or something. Deep reds clashed violently with the soldier's uniforms as they fought over something. I looked up to see that I had already made it to the desk. Well, crashed into it was more like it. I glanced up unfazed by my act of clumsiness.
"Hello there, how may I help you?" said the man who I'm still not sure is a librarian or not.
"Yes, I'm looking for the headmaster's office. Could you please show me the way?" I asked while looking around searching for other doors.
"Certainly," he said as he got out of his leather chair. We started walking away to the left where there wasn't so many books lain on the ground. "By the way, I'm Michael head librarian and secretary here at St. Clementine Academy." He raised his hand and I shook it.
