Wishing that yesterday was over was a huge mistake. I wish i didn't wish it at all.. But here we are. Standing in front of the school clad in our hero costumes and waiting for the bus to arrive.
We are all tired, exhausted. It would appear that i'm not the only one that lost several hours of sleep to either the exhilaration or the anxiety of the U.S.J. for me its more than likely the latter.
I feel arms loosely wrap around my shoulders followed by a soft yawn. I stiffen until i realize that its only Yuga.
"You okay?" i ask softly.
He yawns again, "mhmm i'm just a little sleepy..."
I hesitantly crouch down and let him climb onto my back and i instantly hear soft snoring from him. What a nerd..
Uraraka sleepily waves at me from where she stands, "good morning Chiba, looks like you have a leech on ya."
"Nah, just a koala." I joke back with a small yawn.
"I have some coffee if you want some." She offers.
"No thank you, my dealer should be here in a minute." I look over to the school gate until I see a head of violet hair appear above the shrubbery. "There he is now."
"Howdy, Chiba." Shinsou grumpily mumbles before handing me a big gulp container full of coffee. "That'll be 10 bucks you free loader."
"What? It's usually only 5.." I grumble.
"Think of it as compensation. You made me leave the house early." He groans.
I shake my head and take out my wallet, "thats fair." I slide him a 10 and he immediately saunters off and vanishes around the corner.
"That's... A lot of coffee, bro." Kirishima chimes in as he pops his shoulders.
"Meh. Not really. I used to drink one of these every morning back in middle school. Shinsou just gets me some sometimes." I shrug and adjust the boy on my back so he is more comfortable.
"Ah.. I see." He makes a face before walking back towards Bakugou and Sero.
The bus pulls up and we all board accordingly with the assistance of Iida. I helped Yuga into the window seat and he wasted no time getting settled on my shoulder and falling asleep again.
I sip my coffee in silence and despite us all being tired, the air still buzzed with excitement.
"You know, Todoroki and Midoriya already seem like heroes." Asui muses from her seat. "Bakugou would too if he wasn't so mean all the time!"
"What was that you fucking extra?! I'll kill you!" Bakugou barks out.
"You're just proving her point to be correct." I respond. "And its the ass crack of dawn, so stop screaming."
"Don't make me come back there, dammit." Aizawa threatened from his seat up front.
We mellowed out and woke up some by the time we arrived at the USJ.
To my surprise, the pro hero Thirteen was there to give us instructions as well. "Good morning students!" They chirp out cheerfully. "So I only have a few things to cover for your safety here!"
While they give us instructions, my gaze drifts towards the fountain at the bottom of the stairs where a black mist has begun to form. "Um.. Thirteen?"
"Its rude to interupt, you know!" They huff out.
"Yes I know.. But look.." I point at the mist and a shiver runs up my spine.
"That's not a part of the simulation.." They mumble in shock.
"Thirteen! Get the students out of here!" Aizawa shouts as he springs into action and attacks the people leaving the portal.
He is managing very well, but he soon gets overwhelmed by their attacks.
My classmates turn to run but we are stoppped by a man made of mist. "Hello. I was informed that the symbol of peace was to be here. Do you know where he is?"
Bakugo and Kirishima spring into action and lunge to attack him. Due to them doing this we are all surrounded by the black mist.
I instinctively reach for Yuga as we are swallowed by the portals. "Yuga!"
"Chiba!" He yelps back to me as he clings onto my arm.
I clench my eyes shut and when they open again both Yuga and I are stranded in the Burn Area of the USJ. The area is very hot and we stand in still burning ash. Several villains approach us.
One of them flips her hair and swings her arm around sending balls of fire towards us. I glitch through them, but Yuga isn't quite as lucky. One of them hits his belt causing it to malfunction, and burning his shoulder. He squeaks out in pain and slaps his shoulder to put out the fire.
"You okay?!" I shout out to him.
He shakes his head, "no! My belt is broke! Without it, I can't fight!"
"Its okay." I reassure him as best as I could manage. As I back up towards him I mumble, "I need you to run. I'll distract them, get as far away as you can. Go back up towards the stairs and wait for me there."
He nods and gets ready to run.
I spead my arms wide and glitch my way towards the villains before launching my attack. As I swing my fist around, I notice that Aoyama is already gone. I activate my quirk and glitch my hand into his head. He drops to the ground unconscious. The other two villains attack me at once and I glitch through their attacks so they strike eachother down.
I run off and towards the staira again so I can help Aizawa. He may not like me very much, but he doesn't deserve being beaten to a pulp today.
I dive towards the battle and I freeze as a strange man turns towards me. The hand on his face obscuring his expression. He runs towards me and his hand goes right towards my throat, luckily I glitch in time to avoid him, his hand sliding through my neck like a knife through butter.
He growls something under his breath and a large bird like creature falls through the glass ceiling.
It lands right infront of me and out of the corner of my eye, I spot Midoriya and Asui behind the fountain.
The creature swipes at me, and I barely manage to avoid it. I glitch the ground below its leg and it sticks to the ground temporarily, but as I am distracted it swipes again and tosses me away. In the chaos, I loose my hold and the monster slides free and barrels towards me.
"Chiba!" Midoriya shouts as he swings his fist towards it. His quirk doesn't even faze the beast. "What the..?!"
The beast slaps him away and continued his path towards me.
"Like my Nomu?" The man laughs. It sounds like metal against metal or a fork on a plate and nearly makes me grind my teeth.
"Not really!" I chime back. I dodge the Nomu over and over. But everytime I manage to get a groove going, it manages to damage me more and more.
Eventually, I begin to fall almost into a panic and I rely on subconsciously trying to fight back as best as I could. It doesn't do much and I end up a fucking punching bag.
Then, All Might dives in and tries to save the day. I manage to make it away from the Nomu and I wince as I hear my bones crunch below my flesh as I try to get out of there. I make it towards the Shipwreck area and sink into the water to wash off the blood.
I can't have a reputation of just being class 1-A's calamity. I can't just be known as the fuck up of U.A. that's not how this is gonna end. My story doesn't end here. So I have to hide these injuries from my classmates. They can't know.
I leave the water and as I make it back to shore, I see other heroes have arrived to save us.
As they clean up the carnage and take in the apprehended criminals, I board the bus once more. I manage to book a seat by myself in the back so no one bothers me, and no one notices me.
As soon as we get back to the school, we are all sent home to mentally recover from todays trauma. I walked home and walked up to my room and collapsed on my bed.
Everything hurts. Everytime I breathe, my ribs creak in protest. I can hardly open my eyes without the room spinning like a merry-go-round. No one noticed where I was. Kirishima was too absorbed in looking at Bakugou. Yuga was still having a midlife crisis over his belt. Uraraka was too busy checking up on her friends. Like I'd be that important anyways. Ridiculous. How stupid of me to think it would be any different from my middle school.
I inhale as deeply as I can manage and I swear I smell my mom's lilac perfume as I feel the world closing in around me and clashing darkness.
