Zipporah received a thank you letter and a box of chocolates from Jaesung. He didn't have much, but with his saved up pocket money he thought he should return the kind gesture.
However, that was the last time they virtually spoke or did a gesture for each other. Despite Zipporah appreciating the gift to save any troubles she cut of from him. On the other hand, Jaesung was a bit heart broken, but didn't want to look weak or desperate for her company so he allowed the gap between them grow.....
Zipporah and Tellise became best friends, as planned. Tellise's popularity rose and she ditched her previous group. However she was still known as 'Zi's friend', which in her mind had to change. She knew she had to do something to make people see her for her. And she knew exactly what. Beat Zipporah in athletics. Sports was a big thing at this school and the better the sportsman the better their status, whether it was infensionally or not.
Fortunately for Tellise, her mother paid for her to have private training lessons as well as meeting Zipporah at athletics. Every now and then when she raced Zipporah always managed to beat her and that made he irate. She tried to cover up her jealousy with a laced smile, but Zipporah saw that her friend felt a certain way after their races together and joked by calling her a 'sore looser'. After their training Zipporah ate ice-cream or any kind of fast food and though Tellise followed her, she was often confused in how her competitor could eat poor food and still have the fitness she does. Even though Tellise went to restorants with zipporah she'd never order, unless it was a salad or a water. Zipporah jokingly mocked her for it and Tellise joked with Zipporah, but deep down Tellise was yet again irate and wanted to hurt Zipporah for it. However, that was a feeling she didn't let herself portray.
Meanwhile, Jaesung was either in the music room playing on the piano or studying in the library. The closest to a friend was Leslie. She was excessively annoying, but at times she was decent company. Over the months her Korean became better and because of that Jaesung began to appreciate her a little more. They sometimes had small conversations in Jaesung's native tongue, when Jaesung was in a talkative mood. Leslie valued any time she was able to have around Jaesung, because she knew at times he wanted to be left alone. There was something intimidating about him when he expressed any feeling anger. If he even made a face in such a way that expressed 'go away' she would. He didn't need to say it and despite her being persistent when he did that, which was often, she didn't hesitate to leave him in peace.
He may not know it yet, but he gonna be dangerous. Thought Leslie.
...
It was nearing to the end of spring and developements had been made on everyone's behalf. The fit became fitter, whilst the smart became smarter.
"Oh Zipporah! Look how quickly your hair has grew, who knew black people's hair could even grow, to be honest!" Sassed Tellise.
"What do you mean?" She laughed. "You're black too!"
"I'm half, so it doesn't count. The straight silky-smooth texture I inherited from my mother, fortunately." Tellise mumbled and flicked her mid-back length hair over her shoulder.
"Well with enough attention and care my hair will continue to grow. Now it's at the bottom of my neck when I stretch it and it hasn't been 6 months yet." Zipporah announced proudly, pulling on a few strands of her hair.
Tellise shrugged her shoulders admiring her own hair in the school's bathroom mirror. She hated 'black people's hair', because in her opinion it was like a Bush and just nappy. Despite Zipporah having well-moisturised and fabulous textured coils, Tellise classed Zipporah as quarter cast, despite her skin being dark. She knew Zipporah's mother was lightskin, which explained, in her mind, the usual nappy texture Zipporah didn't have. However, to Zipporah's knowledge she was fully black regardless of what Tellise's input was.
