________

along a rainy day in usually boiling-hot bangkok, there met a pair of young people. an aspiring photographer and a aspiring adventure. both so young and foolish even, but they had too much pride to admit to it back then.

wong yukhei and lalisa manoban. strangers at first, and from that, they started to dislike one another because of their parents would make comparisons between them, but soon became friends. children, who at first only seemed for each other's attention and therefore by doing that they would tease each other and make crude jokes to piss one another off.

but as they grow, they are no longer as foolish, maybe still a bit reckless and with a bit too much pride still, but they've matured. mentally and physically.

and both can only suppose that it's been the physical attraction that made them want to stare at one another for longer, sometimes even wonder what it would be like to hold each other's hands for a little while longer other than pulling each other around. sometimes, even embarrassing themselves with the thought of kissing, having their lips brush.

hormones, that had been the label they put to it, we're growing, it's a phase.

they both wish it was at the time. but eventually, as lalisa was older, she was getting into the adult world more quickly than yukhei, and the boy was feeling left behind at the feeling of losing her.

so he caught up with it by working even harder, lisa didn't hide her surprise when he said he started to work, and when he suddenly announced one day that at his first paycheck, he would spend it with her.

on a date.

yukhei was very adamant in doing so, even when the girl tried to flustered my decline saying he should spend it on himself but no, he was going to go on a date with her.

it took a month, lisa had tried her best to get rid of the thoughts of her and yukhei dating and going out at all, but a part of her squealed at such things. because she always wanted to just never ruin their relationship, the special one they had but there was yukhei, asking her to go out with him.

so in one breezy night along the busy streets of the floating market, he took her there, wearing all the effort he could into a first date given he's never gone on before and the same had been with lisa.

a young man wearing the most fancy shirt he could find in his closet, a button-up with folded sleeves and even his hair slicked back, and a young woman with a billowy dress and her hair tied back in a braid. and at any elder couple that passed by them could only coo at the cuteness, they could tell it was the first time given they both looked so tense yet happy as they held hands while walking.

they laughed a lot throughout the night, and when the nerves relaxed, they started running around and laughing even more. it was a perfect night.

and just as they were about to end, yukhei took the impulse to take lisa's lips on his. it was shocking, but at that moment, many things went through the older girl's mind and realization also dawned on her.

first, they were both half way through growing up, lisa finishing high school and he was just a step behind her. second, of how much they've grown and that scared her because a part of it meant they were considered woman and man. third and last, this kiss had really ignited the fireworks that had gone off in her heart.

when they pulled apart, lisa kept her eyes shut for a while longer, not helping but want to savor the lingering feelings of the lips that just left hers. and when she did, yukhei was gazing back and her and her realised of how much the male changed just after one kiss in her eyes.
