I listened intently as the man spoke. I looked around the building. Something felt off about it. Something made me feel like this is not the safest place right now. As I scanned about I came to Randal. My ears went back and tail drooped as I saw he was crying. I went to go to him but was stopped by Kalvin tightening his hand around mine. I looked at him with disheartened eyes. He just shook his head. With a sigh I turned back to the old man.
He closed the book with a thud, "There you have it children of our God. The truth behind now."
My thoughts darkened as I thought about what the man had said. About the trumpets, about the events to come. All of it. It wasn't because it was happening it's who it was happening to. I didn't care about the world. I just cared about each one of those here, in this "church", with me now. What would that mean for us?
My mind focused on the lecture the man was giving us. He raved about using magic and being in love with the same sex. He spoke on how they were great sins. How those who did such things were blasphemers to God above.
I stood up from where I was sitting, slamming my hands hard on the bench, "I've heard enough! This is BS!" Kalvin grabbed my wrist. "Let me go."
He shook his head.
"I'm not gonna listen to this shit anymore."
His ears dipped back, "Do you not remember what we saw out there?"
"So what?"
He stood up, "Listen for a moment."
"No! I'm not listenin' anymore! The longer I stay here the more I lose out there. I'm gonna find Lane. I'll beat some sense into him if I have t'. I'm tired of this bullshit! Come or not! I don't give a damn!"
I tore my wrist from Kalvin's grasp, his nails raking it slightly.
"That's enough!" Adriana flashed in front of me, "You will stay here! That's an order!"
My face hardened, "Out of my way girlie!"
"You are under my command! It is your duty to listen to me!"
"My duty! I don't have a duty to anyone that I don't want to! Move! Now!"
"This is your last warning. Stand down!"
I pushed past her.
The air became electrified. She sent a fist straight toward me.
Randal caught her fist with a cushion of water, "Let him go."
"Stand down Private! Or you'll be next!"
Randal gave an odd laugh. Water seemed to burst from the ground, encompassing Adriana in a cylinder of inverted waterfalls.
I looked to him, "What are you doing?"
He was now right next to me. His hair changed color becoming a platinum blonde. His eyes too becoming a gray, with an odd symbol acting as the pupil.
Wait...
My mind went back to just before coming into the church. Lane eyes were different too. Then when Kal used his Demons' Eyes the same thing happened. Each of their symbols were different. Even now so were Randals'.
I glanced back. Kalvin seemed completely distraught and choked.
Adrianna sounded from her prison of water, "Let me out now Private!"
"Let you out? I don't think so."
He closed his hand. The water imploded on itself changing its shape to a sphere. The outside of it seemed to freeze while the inside still seemed to be circling, flowing. I barely could see Adriana through it but it seemed she was grasping her throat.
