Tink. My ears twitched.

What was that?

I checked the time. It was 02:03 A.M.

To hell I am getting up.

I moved onto my side and closed my eyes.

Clatter. Clatter. Clatter.

Agh. I swear if it's that kid I'll kill him.

I got out of my bed. I checked the clock again, 02:06. I went to the stairs.

"Kid... if that is you you're gonna get it."

Reaching the end of the stairs I had a direct view of the kitchen. There was nobody. My eyes moved to the coach. Lane was asleep his head leaning to one side.

"You heard it too?"

I looked to the doorway beneath the stairs. Kalvin stood in it rubbing his eyes.

"Mhm. Tell your friend he'd better stop making so much noise or I'll kill him."

"My friend? Randal? He is asleep in his bedroom. I saw him as I came out here. I thought it was Lane making the noise. Or you."

I shook my head, "He's asleep too."

Kalvin looked over to the coach where Lane was.

"Hm..." He slowly went to the kitchen.

Clatter. Clatter. Clink.

I followed behind him.

Clink. Tink. Clatter.

Thud.

Kalvin looked at me, "Can you be a bit quieter?"

I just gave him a shrug. He returned an unhappy look then shook his head and went forward.

We moved slowly. I tried to be as quiet as I possibly could.

Tink. Tink.

"It's under the sink," I whispered.

We both went down. Slowly we opened the door.

Something flew out, running on the ground. Kalvin dived for it, in his paws he clutched a small mouse.

"Really..." I shook my head.

"Get your filthy paws of me fox," the mouse squeaked.

"What were you doing under our sink?"

"Nothing! I wasn't doing nothing! Let me go!"

Kalvin raised an eyebrow skeptically.

The mouse squirmed, "Let me go, you bastard!"

"Why are you here?"

"I just got lost while exploring the building, okay?"

"Why were you exploring the building?"

"I'm a mouse, it's what we do."

"What year are you?"

"Fourth. Can you let me go?"

Kalvin hung on to him for one more moment then let him go, "Get out of here."

"With pleasure," the mouse gave a faint smile the scurried away under the main door.

Kalvin stood up, brush himself off, then went pass me.

I fell in behind him, "Why'd you let 'im go?"

"Why not?"

"Are you sure it was a good idea? I don't like that 'e was in here... It seems a little odd..."
