Sophie's p.o.v

I wake up to my phone ringing.

Graysons name flashed across the screen.

"Hey" I  say.

"Sophie where are you?" Grayson asks genuinely worried

"Um I'm at my house idiot" I laugh in response.

"Have you looked at the time?" He asks

As he says that I look to my alarm clock.

"SHIT ITS NINE AM" I yell.

"Is Sophie my fucking ears" Grayson yells back

"Sorry, oh god what a good start to the day"

"Haha, hurry up and get your cute ass to school before your perfect attendance gets damaged" he says follows by a fake gasp.

"Alright alright I'm coming, thankyou you are a life saver"

"It's what I do baby, cya" he says in a superhero like voice.

Then he hangs up.

I sounded chill to Gray on the phone but on the inside I am mentally dying, He wasn't kidding about the perfect attendance thing. It genuinely stressed me out.

I didnt even bother brushing my teeth or putting on make up like I usually do I just chucked on clothes I found on the washing pile on the couch and left for school.

On the way I was rehearsing what I was going to say to my teacher so that they didnt mark me absent.

But when I got closer I started hearing an alarm. To be more precise the fire alarm.

I squint to see more detail.

There's hundred of students and staff gathered in the car park.

As I approach I see Daniel with his group of sports bros.

"Daniel, what's going on"

Daniel turns around and it looks like he's been laughing.

"Sophie hahaha you'll never guess what happened" Daniel replies between gasps for air.

"I was in chemistry and Mr Hale fucked up his experiment and set his book on fire and he tried to... * laughs* he tried to chuck it out the window and he missed and the curtain set on fire too, next thing you know the whole science block is burning, okay that part is depressing but before that" Daniel explains.

"Oh my god I wish I could have seen" I reply but really I was scared, no school ? We only just got back and I have a future to make.

The fire brigade speeds in the gate and towards the school. Next thing you know there's hoses spraying gallons of water into the science area.

How eventful.

With all this chaos I can't help but wonder if Ethan was okay. So I go to text him but stop myself. I'm not sure why but it felt awkward for some reason.

So I call Grayson instead.

"Hey Gray"

"Sophie, are you at school yet? There's been a fire" Grayson says.

"Yea I'm here and Daniel filled me in, are you all good?" In a way I think I was subconsciously wanting to ask Ethan that but this was next best thing.

"Yea Ethan and I were on the field so we weren't any where near the fire, where are you?"

"Oh I'm just at the car park" I reply. Not addressing the fact that Grayson sort of knew I only called to know about Ethan.

"Oh Ethan's there too, have fun" I hear him chuckle

"Wait gray-" I start but he hangs up the phone.

I must remember to apologise to him.

I put my phone in my pocket and find that Daniel had left. Wow okay I get it.

Then I realise I don't really have many close friends, and they are all guys. Which makes me remember that girl that stood up for me on Twitter, Gracie.

Some part of me just wanted to go to her and rant everything but I barely know her and that might be a bit... weird.

Then something interrupted my thoughts. No, someone interrupted me.

"Oh, hey Soph" a husky voice greets me.

"Ethan! Nice to see you" shit that was awkward.

He just laughs.

"You fucking weirdo, come here" he opens his arms for a hug.

I almost instantly take his offer and he wraps his large arms around me.

His familiar cologne engulfs my nostrils and I feel at home.

And for some reason I just cry. Tears fall from my eyes without my consent. The chaos around us with firemen, police, and stressing teachers just vanished.  All I felt was him.

"Woahwoahwoah why are you crying?" Ethan asks sweetly while he pulls away gently.

"Honestly? I have no idea" I look down at my feet, sniffing occasionally.

He brings his index finger down under my chin and lifts my face up to meet my eyes.

"You can tell me sweetheart" he tells me quietly.

This just made me cry more. Why the fuck was I crying.

Maybe I knew, my best friend is now my ex best friend, Daniel and I have drifted somehow because of it, I won't see my parents for six months, and I fucked my only close friend.

Ethan wipes my tears away with his thumb.

"Wanna go get coffee?" Ethan asks

I just nod in response, he grabs my hand and leads me to his car.

When we were about two metres away from his car he speeds in front and opens the passenger door.

"Here you go sweetheart" he smiles.

I chuckle and my blush is so extremely obvious.

Why is he acting so sweetly today?

Once we are driving I had finally stopped crying so he talks.

"So where do you want to go? Starbucks?" He asks looking at me for like a second.

"I don't mind"

"God you're such a girl" he laughs.

"What's that supposed to mean" I reply in offence.

"Your gender always just says 'I don't mind' or 'you pick' but they never chose, why don't they pick?" He fake cries.

"Fine! We should go to that cute little cafe by Kays park" I respond.

He smiles and shakes his fist in victory.

"This is what we call a breakthrough everyone" he mocks me.

"Shut up and drive" I laugh.

"Anything for you, sweetheart"
