I can't remember the last time I was this surprised by anything. I'm not even talking about Macey and Lennie being right here in my dad's kitchen. Oh no, it gets much crazier than that. I'm talking about the person who just rounded the corner from coming out of the bathroom. My heart stops for a couple of seconds, not believing my eyes
"Mace, pinch me" I whisper while not breaking eye contact with him
"It's him Ry, he's really here" she laughs and pushes me forward a little bit
"Double surprise" Lennie shouts
I take off running into his arms, almost taking both of us to the ground from the force of our bodies colliding
"I missed you Alex" I say into his chest and I can feel him squeeze me tighter. My dad coughs and it reminds me we're not the only two people in the room. I slowly pull back from the hug and peek over at my dad with embarrassment
"Dad, this is—" I start but I'm interrupted by my dad
"Your boyfriend, I know. We met when he got here with these two" he tells me and I begin to wonder just how long they've been here waiting for me "I'll let you guys catch up or whatever, I'm going grocery shopping" dad continues
"I'll come too" Riley says quickly
I cross my arms at the way she's acting. She didn't even hug Macey when she came in and she hasn't uttered a single word to Alex
"Are you sure you don't want to hang with us?" Macey asks with a playful tone
"Yep, my dad is pretty good company" Riley answers and brushes past me out of the kitchen. I give Macey an apologetic smile and follow Riley
"What's going on?" I whisper sharply, wanting to know what her problem is
"Nothing, I just enjoy grocery shopping" Riley whispers back and I study her for a moment before letting out a sigh
"Can you at least make sure dad gets good snacks this time" I say and Riley lets out a small laugh
"Duh, you think I enjoy snacking on twinkies 24/7? Gross" she says twisting her face into disgust
"What about twinkies?" dad says as he's approaching us. Riley and I look at each other and burst into laughter
"Nothing" we say at the same time and I head back to the kitchen while Riley and dad head out of the front door
"You never told me your dad looked like that" Macey says wiggling her eyebrows as soon as I enter the room
"Ew stop" I say with a chuckle, not wanting to think about that "What do you guys want to do first?" I ask them, more specifically Macey because I know the guys won't care what we do
"How about we go grab food and then stay in to watch movies. We're all tired from travelling today so we can start fresh tomorrow" Macey says and the guys agree too
"I know the perfect spot" I say, thinking about the spot dad took Riley and I to for a late lunch the other day. The food there was really good and I could really go for sweet potato fries right now
We arrive at the restaurant not too long later. Alex keeps his hand on the small of my back while we walk in and the gesture makes me feel comforted
