The land of the dead was much livelier than usual. Today is Dia De Los Muertos, the day of the dead. But its also the day that Maria and Hector get married in the living world. Hundreds of skeletons rush to carry certain foods and furniture across the bridge to watch the ceremony.
Maria paced in her room, Her father had instructed to the other males in the family to take Hector over the bridge already. She paced nervously, biting the bone of her thumb. There was a knock at the door.
"Maria?" Her mother calls as she walks in and takes in the appearance of her daughter, her long frilly white dress graced with light purple roses on the side, waist and chest, her hair curled and tied in the back with a light purpleish pink flower pinned on the side, and matching transparent gloves going to her wrists. "You look so beautiful Mija..." Her mother tears up.

"Thank you mama." Maria's voice cracks and she shakes nervously.
"Mija, it is your day, don't feel nervous. Hector loves you very much." She hugs her daughter, making sure she doesnt mess up her hair.
"I know...I'm the one who asked him but I'm still nervous. I'm getting married mama!"
"Yes, all the more reasons to feel happy. Its almost time." Maria looks to her mother and then back in the mirror.
"What about kids...I want a family but we're dead." She turns back to the older woman.
"Yes...that is one of the disadvantages to marrying someone here. But I hate to say this...there are children who die young from the living world with no one to care for them here. No family who wants to claim them. You could try that."
Maria watches as her mother leaves, children who are remembered but pushed away by their dead family? That's horrible!
"I'll talk to Hector...time to go get married." She says to herself.

The living world was just as lively. Both living amd dead people were rushing around, the skeletons setting up chairs and tables of food in the plaza. Hector stood nervously in the center, looking out at the crowd. Miguel and his family had come to play in the plaza this year, which was perfect.
"Hector, why so pale my dead friend?" The voice of Maria's father asks breaking Hector's daze.
"Its my wedding night. In just a few minutes, Maria's going to walk down to me and we'll be together forever. That sounded weird."
"No my friend, you'll be fine. The woman you love has asked you to be her husband, she loves you just as much as you love her." Maria's father says, patting Hector's shoulders.
"But what if she wants to start a family!? We cant have kids...we're dead!!"
"Hector calm down...I'm sure it'll be alright. She knows she's dead and can't have a child, so she won't just leave you for that."
"I'm sorry...I.." Before he can finish the sentence, skeletons started playing the wedding ballad. Maria's father heads down the isle and waits for her. Hector stands up straight as the priest walks behind him to his spot. His tense shoulders calm and his "heart" stops at the sight of her. Her beautiful hair and gorgeous dress emphasizing her beauty. Her father extends his arm and she happily talks it. He walks her slowly down to him, allowling Hector to take in all of her beauty.
She turns to her father and he kisses her cheek before Hector extends his arm for her. She takes it, her father returning to his seat next to her mother, Hector walking her to the priest.
"Hello Maria, my love."
"Hello Hector."
