BACK IN FIVE'S ROOM, Eric was sitting on the bed, looking at his hands. He wondered if his mom cared that he was gone. He hoped she fed his dog. Eric felt his face droop as he realized that she most likely wouldn't. Meanwhile, Five was explaining to Luther his 'brilliant' plan, going in detail about the process that would apparently save them all."And so the answer to ending the apocalypse would be to kill him." He concluded, circling one of the names that he had written on his wall. Luther had come in to hear this plan, Five wasn't originally going to tell him but his brother insisted that he ran through his plan with Luther before acting on his ideas. Eric glanced up to see Luther's reaction to Five's conclusion. The man seemed distraught, obviously not agreeing with it. Eric almost wanted to cry because he could sense the verge of a fight, it was obvious that Five doesn't like people disagreeing with him, and now his own brother didn't agree with a plan he spent hours on. Even the most oblivious person on earth could tell that something bad was going to come out of this.
"You can't just kill an innocent man." Luther finally said, crossing his arms with a stern look. Five moved over aggressively, rolling his eyes.
"Grow up, Luther. We can't save everybody." He replied, angrily. This made Eric even more nervous, the brothers seemed very defensive, with only the bed separating them. Luther huffed loudly, Eric noted how he really sounded like a child in a way.
"Five, I won't let you do this." He stated firmly, walking in front of the door like some boulder. Five scoffed, rolling his eyes and tried to just teleport but failed. He tried a few more times with no luck, soon he had an aggravated look on his face. Eric was in shock, with his mouth hanging open, he obviously didn't know that Five's powers could just stop working. Then again how would he, people having powers was just now something he was learning about. He looked back at Luther who looked smug. Five didn't like this and growled, grabbing a shotgun. Eric jumped up from where he was sitting on the bed and rushed out of the way. Five didn't flinch when Eric moved behind him. Five only kept his eyes trained on Luther, like some sort of assassin.
"Five." Luther said sternly, like he was a parent talking to his child. Five rolled his eyes again, this time a bit more dramatically.
"Don't get in my way, Luther. I'm trying to save lives here." He answered with a tone, flaunting the gun. Eric doubted he would actually shoot his brother but the look on Luther's face frightened him. The man looked actually scared and for a moment Eric realized how he didn't know what Five was actually capable of. He hadn't had much time to exchange backstories with the other boy.
"Five I won't let you do something stupid that you'll regret." Luther said and kept his stern facade up, puffing his chest.
"Who says that I'll regret it." Five muttered and Luther backed up slowly. Eric didn't know what to do as this was all happening.
"Doll, you might want to leave, this probably will get dirty." Five warned and Eric complied, rushing towards the door to escape the tension. He almost was out when he felt a tug on his jacket, preventing him from leaving. Luther had grabbed him and positioned him so he had both hands on Eric's right arm. Eric let out a small gasp and Five seemed shocked as Luther held tightly onto the dark boy's arm.
"If you don't put the gun down, I'll break his arm." Luther threatened and Five stepped forward warily. Eric felt his eyes well up with tears, this was all happening so fast and he cursed himself for already getting emotional. This reminded him of something that happened between him and his mom. She had grabbed him and roughly screamed in his ear. The memory made him want to cry even more.
"You waste of space! Worthless!" A scream shouted at him. The voice so recognizable , his mother. She grabbed his arm, yanking him towards her.
"Do you even try to be masculine? Stick arms, you look like a helpless pathetic little boy. I could break your arm with my bare hands." She even tried for a second as Eric let out a yelp because of the pressure. Lucas started barking, but stopped when he got kicked.
"Stupid dog." His mother muttered, shoving Eric away. He fell to the ground and was a mess in his own tears. She walked away, off to her room to probably chug another beer. Eric let out heavy breaths, sweat mixing with his sobs.
"You wouldn't dare." Five hissed, noticing Eric's facial expressions as he looked blank and Luther tightened his grip.
"Don't bet on it, Five." He replied and Five whispered some hushed inaudible slurs. He seemed to have realized that he wouldn't be able to win this. Luther reached his free hand out and Five gave him the gun with a dejected frown. Luther dropped Eric quickly and Five teleported over to him to catch the other boy by the waist.
"Thanks." Eric mumbled, letting out a breath he didn't know he was holding. He met eyes with Five, who looked relieved. Luther marched out, gun tightly in his grip and Five slammed the door behind him.
"What a horrible horrible dick. I swear he probably wouldn't have even hurt you, I just," He growled and paused, squinting at where the older man was originally standing.
"I'm sorry he threatened you. It... he just was raised like that, Doll. Usually I would've ignored him but it wasn't worth the risk." Five stated and the smirk smugly returned to Five's face. Eric had no idea how after all of that, Five still managed to make him weak at the knees with his words. Having someone who wants to keep him safe, it felt good.
"It's fine. Your family already scares me. So I expected something like this." Eric muttered, glancing down and Five grabbed his shoulders, making the other boy look at him abruptly.
"Hey, I wouldn't let them hurt you. My family isn't even like that. We just got... stuff." He said, his voice trailed off as he spoke and Eric nodded understandingly, if anyone could understand it was him.
"Um well, I got stuff." He replied and the boys both met eyes again. Eric licked his lips, watching as Five's eyes glanced at his mouth. But he wasn't thinking about that, and Five let him go, backing up and awkwardly coughing.
"We all got stuff huh." He finished, turning around. Five went back to his chalk board wall and started writing out a new plan as Eric sat back down on the bed, blushing. He decided that he liked Five. In what way... that's something he could worry about later. But what he did know was Five cared and was already doing so much more than the boy probably realized.
