Taurtis POV
"Sam snap out of it." I begged as I scrambled backwards on the pavement. My friend approached me, the blade in his hand bloody. The limp forms of Soul and Invader lay behind him.
Sam grinned maniacaly. "By what do you mean?" He asked. "Nothing's wrong with me. I just got rid of a small problem." He flicked the knife causing blood to drop off.
"Come on, let's go back home. Play Gamecrab or something. Get some snacks at Carl's." The look on his face was innocent, pleading. I wanted to believe him.
But the blank, lifeless eyes of Soul stared into me. I couldn't trust him.
"You killed Carl. And Freddy." I spat. "You think I'd forgive you?"
Sam shrugged. "You did when I stabbed you before."
"I had amnesia!" I protested. But I knew Sam. He was stubborn.
"So? You still forgave me." Sam dropped the knife. He kicked it away.
"Please. Come home." He begged softly. My heart was tearing apart.
"No." I said quietly.
Fury blazed in his eyes. "WHY?" He roared.
"I'm not going to pretend you didn't just kill four people we know." I shot back. "And act like nothing happened."
"Five." Sam corrected. "Have you seen Mr. Dorito lately?"
I stared. "You killed Dom's dad?" I asked incredulously.
"I mean, why not?" Sam grabbed me by the throat and lifted me up. He'd never been strong enough to do that before.
He started squeezing. "And he's not the last."
I breathed heavily, kicking at Sam weakly. His grip tightened.
A grin stretched across his face. "We could have done this together. But I guess it's just going to be me and Yuki."
I couldn't breathe. "You're insane." I croaked.
Sam smiled. "And you're dead."
A figure ran up and whacked him in the head with something heavy. Sam's eyes widened as he let go of my throat and fell.
I looked up, gasping for air. "Ellen?" I asked weakly.
She looked down at me and held out her hand. "Need some help?" She asked.
I grabbed her hand and she hauled me up.
A large book was tucked under her arm. "What's that?" I asked.
"A book." She answered.
"I know that, but..." I realized that she was messing with me.
"Come on." We walked down the street. "We need to get help."
"Who are you thinking of?" I asked. "Rowan? Pete?"
"Grian." She answered without looking back at me.
I jogged to keep up with her. "I thought he went to Hermitcraft." I said.
"That's why we have this." She held out the book. "Now. Let's get started."
Grian POV
"Catch up if you can!" I called back to Mumbo. My friend fired another rocket and speed up until he was flying beside me.
"And you say you're the best flyer." He joked, eyes sparkling.
I raised an eyebrow. "Why yes I am." I dove down, leaving Mumbo behind me.
These were the best days. Where we didn't have anything going on, and we can just mess around.
I landed on top of the Statue of Hermity, looking around the server. After a minute, Mumbo landed beside me.
He gasped for breath.
"Alright, you're the better flier, and let's leave it at that." He puffed. I laughed.
A buzz from my phone caught my attention. I pulled it out and checked. Impulse had sent me a text.
Grian, can you come to the pickle shop? You need to see this.
Frowning, I put it back in my pocket.
"What is it?" Mumbo asked.
"Impulse needs me." I said, grabbing a few more rockets.
"Let's go." We jumped off and flew down to meet Impulse.
He wasn't alone.
Wither was there too, in human form. Even after a month of getting to know the Hermits, he still didn't want to show them he was a Halfhel.
Tango was there too, his eyes glowing.
And beside them... I stopped dead in my tracks.
Standing beside them was a battered, weak, Taurtis.
I pinched myself to make sure I wasn't imagining things. But nope, my old friend was slumped against the wall of my pickle shop. Bruises covered his collarbone, and blood soaked his hands and shirt although he wasn't cut as far as I could see.
"...Taurtis?" I asked.
He turned and faced me. "Hey Grian."
"What happened?" I asked him.
His eyes went cold. "Sam." He stumbled and I rushed up to catch him.
He was unconscious.
Mumbo looked at me. "What does he mean?" He asked.
A cold dread started filling me. "You don't want to know."
-----
Yeah. It happened. Sam is insane, Taurtis needs help, Grian wants to help, and Mumbo is clueless.
That sums it up pretty well.
Okay byeeeee!
