My alarm wakes me up with a scare and yanks me away from my dreamless sleep, bringing me back into the reality which I dread to live in. But I do it. For Jade. I still have hope that she will wake up even though it's been a year. I drag my tired body off of my bed, feeling just as tired as I did before I went to sleep last night.

I walk to my bathroom and see my reflection staring back at me in the mirror. My eyes look nearly lifeless, the bags under them appearing to be both big and dark.

I look like complete shit.

I splash some water on my face before brushing my teeth and walking out of the bathroom. As I begin to get dressed, my phone starts to ring. Who calls this early in the morning? I take a glimpse at the caller ID before answering it as if my life depended on it.

"Good morning, is this Nathan Doors?" One of the nurses ask.

"Yes. It is." I hastily reply, barely able to hear my own voice above the pounding of my heart. I don't know what to think. My brain is assuming the worst and the best at the same time and I grip the phone harder, waiting for her to say something else.

"Well, I have good news for you. The patient Jade Brook recently woke up from her coma."

I hang up and quickly yank my pants up the rest of the way before slipping my feet into my shoes, tucking the shoelaces into the sides. I run to the bus stop and look to my right to see if I can see a bus approaching. I can't.

I keep staring in that direction as I try to catch my breath, feeling like I got the wind knocked out of me. Both because of the news and the running. Mainly the news.

She's awake. She's finally awake.

My eyes start to sting with tears of joy but I blink them away.

Finally, after a few minutes, the bus pulls over and I quickly get in. Taking into account that it's six in the morning, the bus is nearly empty. I take a seat and spend most of the ride staring out of the window.

When the bus stops at my stop I nearly trip over my own feet as I run to the hospital doors and dash up the stairs to the third floor. I run down the familiar hallways to the room where Jade has spent the last year in.

I make it to the doorway and look inside, seeing Jade sitting upright I slowly walk towards her and I can no longer hold back my tears. I sit down on the side of her bed and hug her.

After a few minutes I pulled back and stared at her face. "What happened?" She asked me with a confused place "and why am I here?" She asked again, looking even more confused. "One of the nurses told me that I was in a coma for a year but I really can't remember what hap-" I cut her off with my own voice.

"I love you." I say as more tears continue to run down my cheeks. She brings her hands up to my face and wipes away my tears with her thumbs. "I love you Jade." I say again before engulfing her in another hug.
