Life for the Christian Guardians and the Equestria Girls was going along great in the town of Stewartville, Minnesota. By now, they've used their powers to help out everyone. The two groups knew that somehow, they could count on each other to help them out with any kind of problems they have.

One day, though, it was enough to change not only their lives, but the entire town forever...

One bright, sunny Wednesday morning, Kiara was talking to some children about God while her brother, Kopa, was helping out with Bible study. So far, everything was going okay when the telephone rang. One of the study teachers answered it before turning to Kopa. "There's someone from the hospital calling for you," he informed him.

Kopa glanced up from his Bible, startled. Usually, he'd hated being interrupted by a phone call, but if it was from the hospital, then that would mean one thing and one thing only: something was wrong. After being handed the receiver, Kopa answered. "Hello, who is it?" he asked.

What he heard, however, was enough to make him slam down the receiver, much to the surprise of his fellow Bible studiers, and run out of the room to where Kiara was. For her part, the young woman was more than surprised to see Kopa barging into the classroom she was currently in. "Kopa, what's the matter?" she asked. "Is something wrong?"

Kopa just panted. "C...can I please t...talk to you f...for a minute? A...alone?" he managed to say.

"Sure," Kiara replied, still feeling worried.

She told the kids to wait for her for a while before heading out of the classroom where Kopa was waiting for her. By now, he had gathered himself enough to tell her. "Brother, what's wrong?" she asked again.

Kopa looked into Kiara's eyes. He didn't want to tell her, but somehow she had to know. "The hospital called today," he explained. "It was about Mom and Dad. They've both been diagnosed with cancer."

Kiara gasped, all the worry on her face turning into complete shock. She had heard about cancer, but had never thought that it could happen to their dysfunctional family one of these days. "Wh-What stage?" she whispered.

Kopa sighed. "As far as the doctors are concerned..." he said hesitantly, "it's stage 3 somehow. They caught it a couple of days ago, but if they do survive it, they're gonna have to be careful."

Tears filed Kiara's eyes as she came into realization. Somehow, she had always known that something was wrong with her parents, but she didn't quite get the pieces put together until now. "Do you mean...?" she asked, not bothering to finish her question

Kopa somehow knew what she was going to ask, though. He just shrugged. Kiara cried, falling into Kopa's outstretched arms.

When they both got home later that day, everyone else was already there, having heard the news. Starlight Glimmer told them that she had the doctors' results; Simba and Nala did survive, but they were going to have to be careful from now on; sooner or later, the cancer would come back at them with a lesser chance of them surviving.

The two siblings were saddened by the news, Kiara to the point of crying for the second time in a day. This was surely the worst day of their lives.
