Steph's Car on the side. x

At 7:50, Matty and I sneak out. Luke and I never finished Captain America, when Matty left, Luke came back and we both fell asleep.

I can tell Matty’s nervous.

“Matty, what’s up?”

“I’m not sure why, but I’m scared to see Nonna. I guess I’m scared she won’t be, I don’t know, proud? Happy for me?”

I shake my head, smiling. “Oh my god, Matty. We’re a family. We basically have to be happy for each other. I’m proud of you, Louis is proud of you. He hears you on the radio, and knows all of the lyrics. Nonna will probably have a heart attack when she sees you.”

“Well, we don’t want that.”

“No.” I smile, as I look out of the car window. “She’s usually the only person to buy my tea off me.”

“I don’t understand how you’re not more popular. The Steph I used to know sang along with us in the basement.” He laughs.

“I wasn’t even good. Besides, I always saw you and George laughing at me.”

“Awh, come on.” He says, hitting my arm. “We weren’t laughing at you specifically. We were laughing at your singing. It’s definitely going to be more popular now though. You were basically shouted out to over 3 million people. And your appearances with Luke will make an impact.”

“I’m not going to use Luke for fame, Matty. God. I haven’t even used you for fame, and you’re my brother. Honestly, I have all I need. I enjoy the freedom.”

He nods, turning on the radio. “The freedom is the only downside. But look at us now! Not one girl chasing after your car.”

“That’s because it’s bloody 8 o’clock in the morning, idiot.” I smile. “We’re going to have to go home and pick up Louis. He’s waiting for us in the basement.”

We get Louis, who cries for a while, until we get to the café. “Louis, I know it’s hard, but please don’t cry in front of Nonna.”

“I won’t. I promise.” He says, as I lock the car. Matty wraps his arm around Louis’ shoulders, and he laughs.

“Now, can we get Steph’s famous chocolate milkshake?” Matty asks, smiling over at me. I roll my eyes.

“Come on then, losers.” I sit them down at a table, and walk behind the counter.

“Still loving those Chocolate chip cupcakes?” I ask Matty.

“Dude, they’re my favourite. Harper used to bring me some home in a box every Friday.” He smiles at his milkshake I put down on the table.

“That’s where they all went. Shit. I thought we had mice or something.”

“Can you please not swear in front of my baby grandson?” Nonna smiles at me, completely missing Matty.

I try to make him as obvious I can, to no prevail.

“Nonna, I’m sorry to be a pain, but can you get Louis’ glass?”

“Of course, love.” She says, stopping dead as she sees Matty’s black hair.

“Is that really-?” She looks at me, and I nod. Matty smiles at her, standing up. A loud sob escapes her mouth as she pulls him close.

After all the hugging had stopped, we left Nonna and Louis at the table and went into the kitchen to talk.

My phone started to ring, seeing it was Harper, I answered it and put it on speakerphone.

“Hey Harps. What’s up?”

“Fuck, Steph. I’ve fucked up so bad.” She cries.

“What’s wrong?” I say, looking up at Matty. I see worry in his eyes.

“I fucked Ash. God my head is fucked up. I don’t know what happened… One minute I was head over heels in love with Matty, then I saw another girl dancing on Ash and I don’t know what came over me…I think I honestly love Ashton.”

Before I could say another word, Matty had stormed out of the room, and I hear the front doors slam.

“Fuck, Harper I’m going to need to call you back.”

I run out the front, seeing Nonna’s and Louis’ worried stares. “Matty?” I call. “MATTY?”

Little did I know, the next time I’d see Matty, I’d see him in a hospital bed.
