HIKING TRIP STORY TIME

YEEHAW MFS!!!

HERE'S SOME WATER ^^^^

~~~
*a skip to lunch because I feel like it*
I walked into the small wooden cabin-like building, following behind Darren, Nick, and Chris.
Mel, how could you leave me alone on this trip with guys??? I have no one to talk to, I'm gonna be excluded with no friends, oh dear god help me.
Melissa and Jason chose not to go on this trip, and since Melissa was basically the only girl I talk to, I was all alone.
Well, not really. I was technically with Darren, Nick and Chris, and this other guy Ryan seemed to be tagging along too...but still. I was the only girl and somehow that made me feel somewhat left out.
I looked into the wooden building, seeing wooden tables and benches set up and a small serving area to the right.
As everyone filed in and took a seat with all their friends, I looked around the cafeteria, wondering where I should sit.
Well maybe to you the obvious answer would be, oh, sit with the boys! They're your friends, so why not?
So maybe it was that easy, but not in my head.
Would I seem clingy and desperate if I always stood with them? I mean, I've kinda followed them around and walked with them this entire time so far....
But I don't have anyone else to sit with. The table with Abel is already full and he's the only other person I'm comfortable with..sorta.
I looked over to where Nick was sitting with a bunch of other people I knew, and there was and empty seat beside Lecia.
Yeah, you know what? I'm gonna sit there.
I sat down beside Lecia and she gave me a friendly smile. Nick was to my right, Darren sitting beside him, and Chris beside Darren, sitting opposite from me. There were other people sitting at the table too, Victoria, Ryan, Melanie, Nicholas, Michelle, and Kelsie. All of them were in my classes at some point, so it wasn't that bad.
We said our prayers (yeah, I'm in a Catholic school) and the teachers told us to pick one person from each table to come up and get the food for said table.
Our table was silent for a few seconds, wondering who would go up. Then all of a sudden,
"Ryan! You go up!" Darren said, and everyone joined him, making Ryan slump in his chair in defeat.
"Fineeee," he grumbled, although I saw the amusement in his eyes.
He got up and went to get the food, beig the only one up there considering how long we took to choose. All the other tables already had their food and started eating.
As Ryan came back, we all set the food on the tables, each of us getting a plate and cup for ourselves. But no one took the food.
We stayed like that for a long time, each of us staring at one another, daring each other to take the food first.
No one did.
"So who's gonna get the food first?" Nick asked from beside me.
"I don't know, how about you?" Melanie asked.
"No, you should take it first, I don't want to."
By now, it seemed too awkward to take the food, considering how long we've all been staring at it for. The tension was too high.
"How about Audrey takes the food?" Darren suggested, knowing that would make me uncomfortable.
Everyone turned to stare at me, all saying words of agreement, and I just shrunk back in my seat, not sure whether to be flattered at the attention or uncomfortable. Maybe a little bit of both.
"Come on Audrey, take the food!" Nick said.
When I shook my head, saying a small "No thanks.", everyone started calling each other again, arguing over who would take the food first.
I looked around at the other tables and laughed, seeing how everyone has started eating except for us.
Eventually, after a couple minutes, Ryan spoke up.
"Okay, let's just eat!" he said, exasperated, and he took a taco shell that was lying on the table.
"Yeah, Ryan!" Darren cheered, and our whole table clapped along with him, laughing.
We then all started taking the food, passing it around the table.
As I ate my less-than-half-filled taco, Nick looked over at me, his taco overflowed with food.
"You're taco looks a little small, don't you think?" he remarked. "Did you actually skip the rice and meat?" he gave me a look.
"Maybe." I answered, not telling him that it was on the other side of the table and I was too nervous to get it, not wanting any attention drawn to me in any sort of way.
"Ha, loser." He said, making me roll my eyes at him and laugh.
After we had finished the food, the teachers announced we could get seconds.
"Ryan, go get our food!" Darren said.
"Yeah, Ryan, go!" Nicholas added.
Soon the whole table was telling him to get our food again.
"Fine, I'll be your servant today." he said, getting out of his seat once more to go get our food.
(p.s. this cycle happened about twice more.)
While everyone was cleaning their tables, ours still continued to eat. Maybe it was because we started eating so late.
Ryan posted a picture of the trip on Instagram, so here's the post and some comments. :)
