Sierra couldn't believe it. This was not supposed to happy. Stella looked at the floor sheepishly.
"Are you guys... Mates?" Sierra asked them quietly.
Stella answered, "Er, yeah Sierra, we are. Thanks for bringing my jacket Trey. See you later." Sierra could hear the guilt laced in her best friend's voice.
Stella shut the door and waited expectantly for her friend to say something. Sierra sighed. She REALLY liked Trey, but Stella was her vest friend and she found her mate, so naturally Sierra decided she would get over him.
Sierra said, "Stella, I am honestly happy for you. I can find somebody else to crush on."
Stella hugged her and thanked her. They got in their sleeping bags and went to sleep.
*Next morning at school*
Sierra was in Mrs. Kawoski's classroom as usual grading papers. Stella was probably still at her house. Sierra sighed as she graded yet another C-. Mrs. K was a good teacher so some drama must be distracting them. She was about to grade another when the door opened and that needy feeling overwhelmed her. She froze. Slowly lifting her head, she thought to herself 'This is it. This is your mate.'
But when she saw who it was, she knew it was a mistake. It couldn't be him. She was just overreacting to an odd feeling. He looked at her funny and for the first time in a long time he didn't make some sarcastic comment or tease her. He was almost as frozen as she was. He took slow strides to his seat, never breaking eye contact.
She noticed how his blue eyes looked like the ocean, and his sandy blonde hair looked like it was effortless even though he probably put a lot of work into it. She saw how his shirt hugged his biceps rather nicel- wait what was she saying?! He smirked at her and she finally looked away and looked down at her desk, blushing.
The bell rang and the rest of the class came in, breaking the tension. She took a deep breath, attempting to relax. This was NOT how everything was supposed to go! She was supposed to be mates with Trey and- wait she can't think that way. Trey is her best friend's mate.
Well, crap.
The bell rang and she gathered up her stuff as quickly as she could. She dashed off to her locker and found Stella waiting. She ran up to her, out of breath. Stella laughed and said, "You ok, bro?" Sierra bent over and nodded. Trey came up and kissed Stella on the cheek in greeting. Strangely, Sierra did not feel much jealousy. A hint of it, but that was it. She smiled at them. She could see Stella glance at her to check her reaction.
She Left them and went to her next class. She got there and sat down with her book opened. It was going to be a long day.
At lunch, Sierra was in line with Stella and Trey was behind Stella with his hands on her hips following her. That's how most mates are when they have touched and know they are mates for sure. Even if you hate your mate, once you touch its hard to stop. Sierra saw it in her parents all the time. It was gross.
Somebody reached across her to grab something and his arm brushed hers and she felt a jolt of pleasure spread through her. She froze up and looked at him. It really is him. He stood there with his mouth hanging open like a fish. She smirked and shut it. She shut his mouth and much to her dismay, the skin contact was unlike anything she had ever felt. They stood there for who knows how long searching each others eyes for a reaction but getting none.
Eventually someone snapped their fingers in between our gazes and we both turned to see Stella and Trey smirking. Embarrassed, Sierra grabbed her tray and rushed to pay. She knew he was following her and frankly she didn't care. Except she did. That was the problem.
She couldn't give in. She COULD deny her mate, but then she would be permanently lonely for life.
So, that wasn't going to happen. She sighed as she took a seat next to Stella (and Trey who was attached to Stella's hip). He sat across from her and watched her eat. finally, she looked up at him and said, "What?"
He rolled his eyes and said, "You felt that when we touched!"
She played stupid and said, "What are you talking about? Crazy butt." He groaned, frustrated, and finally gave up.
He rested his elbow on the table and his chin in his hanf looking sad. She knew it was because she hadn't admitted it and because they were newly mates he was sensitive. She rolled her eyes and got up.
Sierra looked down at Stella and said, "I am going to go study in the library. Hasta luego!" and with that she left.
Sierra got to the library and sat in her favorite corner, grabbing the nearest teen romance novel. She opened it up and bit into an apple she pulled out of her bag.
"BOO!" A voice said in her ear, making her jump. Sierra turned around and he was bent over in laughter. She rolled her eyes and went back to reading.
"You know, that might be us in 5 years. Being mates and all, we probably will be all lovey dovey and shit." He said to her.
She looked at him and said, "In your dreams, mate."
His face got serious as he said, "You're not going to reject me, are you? Because then we will both have an eternal feeling of loneliness. I've seen it and I REALLY don't want it."
She sighed and said, "No, I guess not."
He smiled and said, "Looks like you're stuck with me!"
Oh, great. Just what she wanted. -__-
