'Sorry Jack, she does not feel comfortable around you. I think you should give up on her. It has been a month of you trying to make her notice you but she is not interested.' I said gently breaking the news to him while looking at his dejected face. It looks like he too knew that it was doomed to fail.
'I...it's okay.' He murmured in a soft voice. I felt bad for him.
'Here take this. This is on me.' I said while sliding a plate of walnut mocha cake to him.
'I will pay for it. No need to feel sorry for me.' He said with that little bit of self confidence.
I shook my head and told him not to bother about it. Thinking for a second I quickly pulled out my phone from my back jean pocket scrolled down my contact list and noted down a number. Tearing the paper from my slip pad I gave it to him and said in a cheerful voice.
'This number is of a great friend of mine. Her name is Stella and I think you will like her.'
He hesitated a bit but finally took it and put it in his shirt pocket giving me a small smile then he dug into the cake. With that task completed I turned and went back to work. It was about to be lunch time and this place would get filled with people very quickly. After restocking the goods I once again made a detour to the kitchen to take a look at Rose. Silently I opened the door and checked on her. She was humming a tune and mixing some kind of batter. Relieved I closed the door and leaned against it.
Within a moment I was trapped inside my recollections, silently I once again cursed myself in heart for not going with her that night, I had left early as I had to go back at home to look after Charlie as he was sick. Only if I had not left, I would have been with her then maybe... maybe it would not have happened. I shook my head when I realized that someone was at the counter and ringing bell. I rushed over the counter and gave him a dazzling smile asking what would he like to have? Time to get busy as that is what I get paid for and not for wallowing in self pity.
After completing his order I looked behind him and saw that more people were coming in and the line has already started to form, looks like i may need one more helping hand. Just as I was about to shout for Rose, door of shop opened and in walked granny lizzy. I smiled when she looked at me. She gave me thumbs up and went in the kitchen. I was relaxed since I know that now Rose will come out and help me manage the crowd.

'What is it with people today? How come we are this crowded? Today is Wednesday not Saturday or Sunday.' I asked Becca after serving another customer. She shrugged her shoulders and then replied in an ambiguous tone accompanied by a wink. 'May be it is the fragrance of these mocha cake of yours that is luring people in.'
I laughed at her suggestion and got busy with serving incoming people. What she said might not be wrong because these cakes are indeed selling like hot cakes. I laughed at my own words and served another order of mocha cake. After hours later it was finally time to close our bakery. After completing the routine chores we finally settled with steaming cup of hot chocolate and marshmallows at the corner table that gave us a perfect view of outside. Taking a sip I sighed in content and looked up at the smiling faces of Becca and grandma.
I was confused for a moment when I saw grandma put two red envelopes at the table and slightly pushed them our way. 'Well, my lovely girls this is your today's bonus and a little extra from my side. And before you refuse let me clear that I am only giving you this because we have obtained quite a profit this month and also because Christmas is too round the corner.'
I smiled at her antics, whenever Lizbeth was in this mood it was very hard for anyone to persuade her otherwise moreover with her airtight words she never leaves any place for arguments. 'Granny lizzy is the best.' Rebecca cheered and threw herself at her enveloping in a huge over dramatic hug. After finishing our drink we finally closed the main door and left for home. Dropping Rebecca at her home we finally arrived at our humble abode. It was only us, grandma and me as grandpa was out of town. He has promised that he will be back soon and we will celebrate Christmas together.
After finishing our dinner I led grandma to her room, made her lie down and covered her with quilt. Kissing her good night I left and made way to kitchen to do the dishes. Done with dishes I checked the doors and windows finally making sure that everything was in proper order I went upstairs to my bedroom. Lying In my bed I felt the day caught up to me as I was feeling bone tired. Soon enough darkness engulfed me and I was asleep in a dreamless slumber.
I hope you guys like this chapter. Till next time.
