Rose's p.o.v-

Tomorrow will mark the beginning of a new year and everyone is busy in the preparations of same but my mind is not in the festivities. I am still thinking about the wolf that I encountered on Christmas night. My heart worries for his well being. I do not know why but my heart trembles at the thought of something happening to him. I feel that I have seen this wolf somewhere but for the life of me I cannot remember and this feeling of distant connection was making me restless. Inhaling the familiar scent I come back from my thoughts just in time to hear the oven beep. Taking out the cookies I am relieved to see that they are nicely done. Quickly I make my way around the centre table and put cookies there to cool down. Wiping down the slab and washing the dishes I smile in admiration at my neat kitchen.

Feeling satisfied I move out the door and join Becca in waiting tables. When you are busy time flies and it was already time to close the bakery.

'Finally, we are done for the day.' Becca exclaimed as she slumped down at the chair. I smiled at her in understanding. We loved to work here but today being a day before New Year we were packed and did not get the time to eat lunch properly. I was about to reply when we heard the bell. This indicates arrival of a new customer and usually we are happy to serve more but given our condition... nevertheless I turned and politely asked the new comer for his order.

'A box chocolate chip cookies and two slices of walnut mocha cake, please pack the cake too.' I heard the order and packed it in a daze. I felt that I have heard this voice before. When i told him the bill and finally looked at him my breath got caught in my throat. His face seemed familiar and those blue eyes seem to stare at my soul. Returning the change I gathered the courage and asked him if we have met before. He did not answer me just stared at my face and after few minutes turned and left.

I do not know how much time passed as I saw his back getting farther away and leaving the shop. It was only when Becca lightly tapped on my shoulder that I regained my senses.

'Are you all right? Do you know him?' Becca asked in a worried tone.

'I do not know. I felt that maybe I have met him somewhere and his eyes... the way he looked at me, I felt as if he was searching for something. His eyes seem to implore and asking questions but I do not know if I have those answers. And when he left I felt like a part of me left with him.' I quieted down as I reached the last of my sentence.

Becca was silent for a while and then hesitantly spoke.

'Rose doesn't think much about it. If he knows you then he might return and if he does not then he won't. You are already tired and thinking about it will only lead to headache. Compromising your health over this matter is not worth it, so let's leave it for now.'

I know that she cares about me so I nodded for her sake to let this matter go. But still I could feel that my heart won't let me forget this matter easily.

Celebrating New Years Eve was a close family affair for us. So after cleaning all the mess I made my way to my bedroom. It has been half an hour and I was wide awake lying in bed. My body was pleading for a good night sleep but it seems my mind was against it. I knew that today it will be more rush at the bakery so I had to get some sleep... closing my eyes I started to recite the recepie of my favourite cake and soon enough was in dreamland.

It was a moonless night and a silhouette could be seen in the dim street light walking along the road. It was a girl with tattered clothes and aimless eyes. The girl kept walking one step at a time. Her face was covered with dried tear marks and there was some dried blood at the corner of her mouth. She was struggling with each step and her breathing was started to slow down. She stumbled on the pothole and fell. Her arms did not move and she made no attempt to save herself from the fall. She neither has the energy nor the will to do so. But just when she was about to hit the surface a pair of arms caught her. The embrace was warm and felt familiar. The person holding her raised her chin and looked at her. Finally a sense of semblance came to her eyes. It was the same blue eyes that she saw today. Rose... he whispered her name as she lost her consciousness.

I woke up drenched in sweat but was amazed at the fact that I did not felt restless. I felt somewhat safe. After a while of gathering my wits I remembered my dream. He was the same guy who came at the bakery previous day. In my dream he knew my name. Instantly my mind blanked out and I felt confused. Why did I dream of him? Why did he catch me? Why do I feel safe? My mind was churning with questions and I could not make any head or tail out of it. Taking a deep breath I slowly exhaled. Dong it for few times I felt somewhat relaxed. I had lots to bake today and needed to get to the bakery early than normal time. Thinking about the rush that we will be facing today I pep talked and got out of bed to prepare for the day.

i hope you guys like it.
