Rose's p.o.v-
I had my eyes closed but I was slowly coming to my senses. As soon as I regained them I wished to stay unconscious for the time being. I hurt all over and it felt like I was run over by a truck. Just like that it came to me that I did had an accident. I moaned in pain and slowly opened my eyes. The room was bright and I could see from the window that it was noon may be past that. I was in my room but how did I come here. I could not remember how I reached home. My head was throbbing so I decided to not think about anything. It is good that I am home at least Ben and Lizzy won't worry for me. As soon as their name came to my mind the door of my room was opened as they walked in.
I was stupefied for a while and stared blankly at them. Did they really came or it is my mind playing tricks on me? I blinked once then twice and once again to make sure that they were real.
'Rose, you finally woke up. You had us worried darling.' Lizzy softly spoke and came to sit beside my head. Very gently she started patting my hair with occasional lazy strokes of combing through them. And just like that the pain became bearable.
'Thanks to that young man, his timely help saved you. I am grateful for his help & will forever be in his debt.' Grandpa came and stood behind grandma and put his hands on her shoulders. This gesture of grandpa is very rare. I can count on my fingers the number of times I have seen this, only twice and both of the time when he was worried about me. And once again I have failed them. I knew that they were shaken to core with me being late and then when they found me in this condition. Old memories must have come back to haunt them. It was my fault for being careless and they have to suffer for that.
'No my sweet rose, don't cry. It is not your fault.' She wiped my tears away as they continued to fall.
'But it was my fault... I' I coughed and could not continue.
Grandpa poured me a glass of water and passed the glass. I was not able to hold it so he helped me drink it slowly as he held it.
'What happened is in past. Do not dwell on it. You need to eat something so that you could take your medicine. Your grandpa will reheat the food while I help you take a bath, okay.'
I nodded and with her help stood up.
I felt good after taking a bath and much better after eating some food. We were in drawing room sitting on the comfy couch while I was laying on one with my head in Lizzy's lap. I had already told them my version of the story and now was listening to theirs. Grandpa Ben has spoken the last words when we heard the bell.
'Looks like the young lad is back, he is here to check on you as promised.' Grandpa remarked delighted with his own conclusion.
'I bet it is Becca with Charlie.'
'Me too.' Grandma joined me and it was two against one.
'We will see. I will win. You just wait and watch.' He harrumphed and went to open the door.
After few seconds Charlie came bouncing in the room shouting my name. I looked up in glee and held my arms open in invitation. He hugged me tightly and I had to held back my wince.
'You have a booboo.' Charlie said sweetly while pointing to my bandaged head and wrist. He released me and planted a soft kiss on both of them.
'Now it won't hurt anymore.' He gave me a big smile and sit next to me carefully avoiding touching me anywhere that might hurt. I smiled at his antics and was glad that he came.
'Where is Becca? Did you-' I was cut off mid sentence by none other than Becca.
'Rose, you should stop giving everyone heart attack. I don't think Ben and Lizzy could take anymore and I don't want to die young.' She smiled and I knew she was messing around only and did not mean it in a bad way. But what she said is true. I need to be more careful. She too hugged me but very lightly and a bit dramatically and I could do nothing but smile at her antics. She knows how to make the ambience light.
We chatted and I told her what happened. She was glad that someone found me quickly and took me home. She wished to meet him so that she could thank him personally for saving me.
'Well, your wish might come true as grandpa said that he will come to visit me.' I had just spoken when I heard grandpa clearing his throat dramatically. He gave me a big smile and step aside.
I watched astonished to see a familiar face standing there with a mild smile on his face. Thousands of thoughts run amok my mind. How was he here? Was he the one who saved me? Did he happen to go by that road or was he following me? I could do nothing for a while but gaze stupidly at him. I looked at Becca and she too was shocked to see him although from the look of it she was pleasantly surprised. We shared a look and I knew that she was thinking along the same lines as me. But our reaction was different while I was a bit reluctant and cautioned she was elated to see him. I think she might be getting the wrong idea and I was proved right when she looked at me and then at him and me again with meaningful gaze.
All of this did not go unnoticed by grandpa as I saw his expression of delight fall and in its place came more of a guarded look. I know what comes next, looks like he was in for a grill. I felt bad for him. I was aware of his gaze at me. He was looking all over me as if to reassure himself that I was okay. His probing gaze did not alarm me. Rather I wanted to stand up and hug him to tell him that I was fine. I do not know how but I did not feel that he could harm me and this feeling of safety once again surprised me. Just like in my dream I felt a sense of security. It warmed me from within.
I was startled out of my stupor when Becca slightly nudged me. He approached me and offered his hand to shake. I was having a hard time to keep my thoughts in check. But nevertheless I accepted and we shook hands.
'My name is Adam and I hope that you feel better.'
'Adam.' His name came out as a whisper but in my mind it rang with familiarity.
It kept reverberating like a broken record playing the same tune again and again.
Adam... Adam... where have I heard it?
