After MGK's performance the crowd was geeked up and growing rowdier by the second. Dev thought it would be a good idea to head out before the club actually closed and people started leaving in droves. The four of us made our way through the crowd carefully. Max led the way with V and I right behind him. Devereaux brought up the rear. We made it to the coat check to get our things.
"WHAT THE HELL IS THIS MUTHAFUCKA DOING IN MY CLUB," a slurred voice called from behind us.
The girl behind the coat check counter cringed.
Security froze.
They seemed to be caught between taking care of the situation and not wanting to be on their boss's bad side as Kamal pushed his way through the crowd toward us. My heart started racing as Kamal came to stand in front of our little group. Dev moved forward to stand in front of me. Devereaux seemed so calm. The gun hidden under his jacket remained hidden in its holster. His stance was relaxed as Kamal glowered at him.
"We just tryna leave, fam. I ain't on shit," Dev said with his hands up.
"Fuck you, white boy. I should fuck you up for even stepping in my shit," Kamal said.
"Any place, any time, other than tonight. I got better things to do," Dev said.
I was surprised that he hadn't reacted to Kamal's rage in the slightest.
"You really think you're hot shit, huh," Kamal asked.
The change in Devereaux's stance and the look on his face said that he did. He shrugged a little.
"I been fighting in these streets since I was a kid. I've fucked more muhfuckaz up than I've taken L's. And I've never taken a L from some chump like you," Devereaux said and then turned to me.
"Let's go, ma. We got places to be," he said grabbing my hand.
"Fuckin' tease. You were probably fuckin' this clown the entire time. That's why you wouldn't give me any ass. Tch, you wonder why I chose to keep fucking Ashley," Kamal said venomously.
That's when Dev started to lose his cool.
"Apologize to Mackenzie, before I show you how sorry you are," Devereaux said in a deadly calm voice.
"Fuck that bitch. I don't put my hands-on women but I wouldn't consider her a woman so she can get it too," Kamal said.
Devereaux let my hand go and his hand slid inside his jacket. I knew he was reaching for his gun. V took my hand and stepped closer to me. Max moved to stand next to Devereaux.
"Hey Mal, calm down. We were just leaving. Besides I'm the one who invited Devereaux and Mackenzie," Max said.
It took Kamal a second to focus. When he first noticed Max, a smile came to his lips but then he realized Max was standing with Devereaux. This seemed to piss him off even more than before.
"Oh, so you're taking his side. I thought you was my boy," Kamal said truly sounding hurt.
"Come on, Mal. We've known each other almost 12 years. V is my girlfriend and Kenzie and Dev are cool. But that doesn't mean we aren't still friends," Max said, trying to reason with Kamal.
"Nah, fuck that. That cracker and his whore fucked me over and if you with them than we ain't shit," Mal said, his voice raising with every word.
Devereaux's gun was out of its holster when Cody finally showed up. The security guards had been trying to reach him since Kamal had showed up.
"What took you so long," Max asked.
"I was in a meeting.," Cody explained. "Brother, what's going on," Cody asked.
