Beautiful

A couple of years had gone by. It was a beautiful, sunny day in Sindria. Sinbad had errands to run outside the palace and had asked Layla if she wanted to join him. But due to her still going through menopause, she wasn't in the mood to do anything. Instead, she opted to sit in the garden and read a book. She wanted to get her mind off how her body was changing. Her weight was fluctuating even though her diet was great because her metabolism had slowed down. Not only that, overtime her breasts were losing their fullness and she felt embarrassed in front of Sinbad. No matter what he said to assure her that she was always beautiful, she didn't believe him. She just thought he wanted her not to feel bad about herself.

A couple of hours later, Sinbad returned. He rushed out to the garden to her and found her now walking through the flower beds.

"Layla," he called as he reached her. "I'm back."
She turned to him and smiled. "Did you manage to get your things done?"
"Yes. And I also have a surprise for you."
"What is it?"
"Close your eyes."

She laughed softly and closed her eyes. He took hold of her hand and carefully led her to another section of the garden.

"No peeking, okay?"
"Okay, Sin." She placed her other hand over her eyes for extra measure. "Happy?"
"Yes. Now, Jafar didn't want me to get this for you but this is something I've never been able to do for you."
"The suspense is real," she said excitedly.
"It will be worth it. I promise."

She had no idea what it could be. She had never even hinted to him that she wanted anything so the possibilities of what the surprise could be were endless. He soon came to a stop and then stood behind her, holding onto her shoulders.

"When I count to three, open your eyes," he told her.
"Okay," she said with a wide smile.
"One... Two... Three."

She opened her eyes and her smile faltered with confusion. She stared at what her husband had so lovingly bought for her but she had no idea what to do with it.

"A peacock?"
"Yeah!" he laughed with a bright grin. "Pretty great, huh? And he's all yours!"

She blinked a few times as she stared at the blue peacock casually walking around in the garden in front of her. Sinbad was still chuffed about his buy.

"I... I don't know what to say..." She didn't know whether to laugh or cry. "What am I going to do with a peacock? I don't know how to look after one."
He held her shoulders and turned her to face him. "It's okay. We'll learn together. Out of everything I've wanted to give you, I've never given you a pet. And now that Esra is all grown up, I thought it would be an opportunity to keep our minds focused on something else besides running the country. An escape," he explained.
"Sin, are you going through some sort of midlife crisis?"
He shook his head. "No. Honestly, Layla, I think this is a great thing."
"Okay, but why a peacock? Why not a cat or a dog?"
"Everyone has cats and dogs. There was something I heard about peacocks that made me want to buy one."
"And what would that be?"
He smiled."When they see someone beautiful, they open their tail."
She sighed. "That's a myth."
"Let's test it out, shall we?"

He turned her around to the peacock again before whistling. The peacock looked towards Layla as Sinbad hid behind her. It let out it's cry before his tail lifted and spread out. Layla's breath was taken away at how gorgeous the peacock's tail was.

Sinbad smiled. "See? At least now you'll believe me when I say that you're still the most beautiful woman in the world."
She sighed softly, realising now why he had bought it. "Oh, Sin..." She turned to him and held his face before kissing his lips softly. "I'm so sorry. I do believe you. I really do." She pecked his lips again. "Thank you. I love you so much."
"I love you, too, Layla. And please never forget that you will always be beautiful. Especially to me."
She nodded. "I promise."

Wrapping his arms around her waist, he leaned down and kissed her deeply. She smiled against his lips before parting slightly.

"Hey, Sin. Did you know that when peacocks make that call and open their feathers, it means they want to mate."
He blinked. "I think I'm going to return it."
