Nova POV
I know she doesn't trust me. There's literally no way she could so early on. I glanced over at Faira to see her focused dead ahead, typical. She never has been one to abandon a goal once she sets herself on it. I guess I could say that I look up to her for that as I've never really had anyone better to look to.
My mind went on autopilot and only realised I was absentmindedly staring at her when she looked over at me with a questioning look on her face. I averted my eyes and reset them ahead, stopping when we arrived. "Here we are." She looked at the large cave opening, appearing semi surprised that I lived in a cave instead of a house. "It's in there."
Another blunt statement and at this point Faira seemed slightly concerned. 'You're not acting cocky anymore, what's wrong?' I was not about to let her find anything out. "Nothing, why are you worried all of the sudden?" She narrowed her eye, but didn't question it any further.
Of course, I knew that meant she was going to interrogate me about it later, but the more she doesn't know, the better. I looked back over to where Faira had been standing to see her already walking into the cave. I was about to stop her, but I found that I couldn't move from that spot. As I stood there, frozen in that spot as I watched Faira get her ass handed to her as she flew out of the cave sliding across the ground.
My mind finally registered that it was supposed to move, and I darted over to her. The wrong words came out at the wrong time. "Believe me now?" I couldn't stop myself from saying it, and if I could rewind time and fix that mistake, I would. All because Faira was fed up with my cockiness.
She didn't have to say a word, as her action spoke louder. What action you may ask? A simple slap to the face. I was stunned, having not expected something like that. Figuring that it'd be for the better, I snapped out of my stupor and walked to my home, where I faced that overgrown weed.
It heard my footsteps and turned its steely gaze towards me, a demonic smile spreading onto its face. "Back for more eh?" Its voice was layered in a way, almost like there were multiple voices at once. Somehow, just listening to it was disorienting. "Yeah, I am. Did you miss me?"
That damned smile got wider. "Well of course! You're the only challenge I've had in SUCH a long time!" Now that I was up close to this thing I could actually take in what it looked like. Giant roots, sharp thorns at the sides, utterly massive with its head nearly hitting the roof.
Then the head itself with blade like petals, a crazed look in its eyes and a sharp toothed, deranged grin. Yeesh, no wonder I got my ass handed to me to first time around. "No more games. This ends here." That stupid grin got wider as it let out one of the most chilling laughs I'd ever heard.
"Alright! LET'S SEE WHAT YOU GOT!" This wasn't going to go well by any means.
