Brenton lets out a laugh. His freckles laugh along with him, the half-heart on the left joining in too. He then checks his red spikes for the millionth time.
"How much longer did the doctors say?" Brenton questions, his amber eyes focused on the mirror in the treehouse room.
"They said give it another month," Ben answers through the hologram call.
"We could go now but then we're not at our full strength, neither are Xami and Jasal, so we're all chilling till September at the very least," Belle sighs. "It's annoying." Her hair at a buzz cut to get rid of the dead hair.
"You four nearly died. I can't blame anyone over there," Brenton, satisfied with his spikes, looks over at his waiting friends and Ku. "Anyway, how's therapy been for all of you guys? If you wanna share that is."
"It's been going okay," Belle shrugs. "It was still our fault but we have to learn from it so that we can avoid having mages die like that ever again..."
"It's still hard living with it," Ben frowns. "I just...I gave them my hero's honor to get them out alive and they all died...I wasn't able to do anything."
"What about you?" Belle raises an eyebrow and Ben instantly turns his worry gaze at Brenton.
"I mean, I don't get nightmares all the time now," Brenton shrugs. "Haven't been screaming my adoptive parents' name or Gramp's at night either...still avoid Urana a bit when she uses her water magic...but it's been getting better. At least I wasn't dying." A playful grin to lighten the mood.
"Yeah yeah, now go to school you hair gel addict," Ben says.
"Sure, whatever," Brenton chuckles, swiping his hand over the hologram to end the call. "Sorry guys! Let's go then."
"About time sparky," Sasha uses his shoulder as an armrest. Her curly black hair resting on her shoulders but the longer curls are hanging down to her chest. "You really took ten hours just doing your hair."
"What? These spikes take time, they're literal perfection," Brenton brags as Sasha rolls her brown eyes. "Besides, you took ten hours moisturizing your skin!"
"Hey! This wonderful black skin can't take care of itself!" Sasha grumbles in annoyance. "Urana! Tell your brother that I spend less time than him in the morning!"
They all step through the portal. Then start to jump from the treehouse to the ground. And finally, walk towards school with Ku not too far behind.
Urana looks back and rolls her ocean blue eyes. "Please, you two take even more time than Owen in the morning," Urana tucks a strand of stray wavy, black hair behind her ear, the forehead bangs looking like waves. Her freckles showing the same amount of attitude, the half-heart on the right facing away.
"Hey! I do not!" Owen protests, his blackish-brown hair up in a full ponytail with the left bang covering his left eye. His brown-green eye focused on the three of them.
"Do too!" Urana argues.
"Whatever, at least I don't claim the bathroom every morning using my super speed," Owen pretends to cough.
"You're all just jealous that I always get to go to the bathroom first!" Alex smiles brightly at him, the freckles on the bridge of his nose do the same. His golden curls bounce with him as his left blue and right brown eyes sparkle with golden specks.
"Can you crazy lot not argue first thing in the morning?" Ku grumbles, gulping down coffee. His mud brown eyes look tired and his fading black locks look blander. He lifts his tan hat and gets out another cup of coffee.
"Yeah, Sensei's right!" Ava appears out of nowhere and jumps onto Alex. Who could surprisingly still stand. Her strawberry blonde hair is done in the signature side ponytail with a silver ribbon. Ava's hazel eyes share the same energy as Alex's.
"Ava's here!" Alex cheers, carrying her until she jumps down. "Where's Tyler?"
"He wants to go with his friends, something about me not being cool enough or whatever," Ava waves her hand dismissively. "That punk. He thinks he's better than me even though I've got magic."
"But he doesn't know that," Sasha points out.
"True," Ava nods. "But forget that, I can't believe this is our last year of high school!"
They all start to talk about that. The past four years went by in a whirl and the last almost three years of officially being mages went by even faster.
Ku couldn't help but smile at all of them in their uniforms and going to school. It relaxes him to know that they're able to stick together regardless of what happened to them.
Maybe...maybe there really is nothing to worry about anymore, Ku wonders. Also, we have to go to the Magic World this weekend...what time did I book the flight..?
"Let's hope we can just chill at school now," Sasha says as they near the building.
"You know Cepheus High is not chill," Brenton replies, shrugging off Sasha's arm. "I'm surprised I even made it here. It's all because of Gramps."
"But maybe we'll have classes together?" Alex's eyes light up.
"Oh! And maybe we can see each other in the hallways more often!" Ava exclaims, practically glowing. "C'mon! We've gotta find out our schedules!" She grabs all of their hands and pulls them along with her.
"Have a good day at school!" Ku waves them off and they wave back. His smile fades as they walk further and further away from him.
"Jeez, what do you look all depressed for?"
Ku turns around to see Amy standing right next to him with a cup of coffee in her hand. Her red hair is done in a neat ponytail. Amy's leaf green eyes focus on Ku.
"Just the fact that you and I have to move back," Ku smiles sadly. "The fact that the teens have to make a very hard decision."
"Oh relax will you?" Amy grins, the freckles across her face join in. "They can make a decision without breaking down, just let 'em do their thing."
"They just worry me Amy, like all of you do," Ku sighs. "Thank goodness we are going back home for the weekend."
"Yeah, but don't worry Sensei," Amy sips her coffee. "Everything will be good. They'll make a decision, and even if they don't move with us...they'll always be able to come and visit."
"Yes but...that is not the only thing I am worried about..." Ku's voice trails off.
"Seriously? You're still worried about that? Those guys are all doing really well, I'm sure we don't have to worry about their future at all. Besides, I'm ready to become a prosecutor back home!"
"I know, you have been waiting for a long time."
"Damn right I have! It's about time too like jeez. I can't wait to get the diploma for it!"
"Did your siblings study for their hero test?"
"....no...."
"Oh, you children are going to be the death of me."
