Chapter 7.

Alex's P.O.V.

What am I doing? What is the plan when he opens that door? I honestly have no idea. I didn't really think it through until I actually knocked on the door. What am I going to say? 'Hey I don't like the way you treat Alida so I'm going to take her home with me.' That wouldn't work. Maybe I should just leave while I still have the cha-

"Who the hell are you?" Her dad said. I scrunched up my nose because he stunk of beer and cigarettes.

"I-I'm Alex and I just came to pick up some clothes for Alida." I said mentally slapping myself. Really Alex is that the best you've got? He looked passed me towards my car where Alida was and then he looked back at me.

"What makes you think I'm going to let my daughter leave with some teenage boy?" I sighed but laughed to myself cause he thought I was a boy.

"Look, I know what you are doing to her. No she didn't tell me, I kinda figured out myself so unless you want me to report you to the police, I suggest that you let me get her clothes and I'll be on my way." He stared at me and I stared right back to so him I wasn't scared of him. He laughed.

"I don't know why you're wasting your time on her. She's useless. Go ahead and get her clothes." He opened the door wider and I walked in. I heard the door close behind me. I continued to look for Alida's room. I finally found it which wasn't hard because is was the only room covered with butterfly stickers. I laughed a little and found a bag to pack her clothes with.

Once I got everything I could find,which wasn't much, I went to head out her room only to bump into her father. Next thing I knew I was gasping for air as I felt him punch my stomach.

"You think I was going to let you just take my daughter?" I laughed and looked up at him.

"Why do you care? All you want to do is beat and throw her around." He grabbed my hair and pulled me up to face him.

"You should watch your mouth."

"You should brush you're teeth." I should really keep my mouth shut. Are you really trying to get your ass beat Alex? He punched me in the face and I fell again. He was about to hit me again but I rolled over and got up.

"I don't think you want to cause a bigger crowd than you already did." He looked at me confused and I pointed to the window that was open the whole time. There was people looking at the house and some were even looking through the window directly at us. He closed the window and faced me.

"This isn't over." He said. I looked at him and walked out the room and went outside. I got inside the car and let out a breath.

"Are you insane!? What the hell were you thinking? I know he hit you. Look at your face. Did he hit you anywhere else?" Alida yelled.

"Relax. I'm fine and you're safe. The good thing to think about is that you're not going back there any time soon." I said. She looked down.

"Why are you doing this? We just met and you just got hurt just to keep me safe."

"No one should have to go through something like this. I want to help you." I answer truthfully. She nodded and sat back in her seat and I drove to my house.

When we got back to my house Alida went to my room and fell asleep. I needed to tell my mom that Alida was staying here so I went downstairs to find her watching tv.

"Hey mom." She looked at me and smiled.

"Hey Alex. What's up?" She turned down the volume to hear me.

"Jesus what happened to your face?" My mom looked at me concerned. I shrugged.

"Got into a little fight." She stared at me and sighed.

"Be more careful. Now did you need to ask me something?"

"So is it okay if Alida stays with us? We don't have to, but she doesn't have anywhere to g-"

"She can stay as long as she wants." I looked at my mom like she was crazy. I didn't think it was going to be this easy.

"I know that she is going through something that she doesn't deserve. I know how that feels." My mom said. I know what she was talking about and just thinking of it makes me upset.

"Thank you mom." I hugged her and ran upstairs. I walked in my room and saw Alida sitting up in my bed staring off into space.

"Are you okay?" She looked at me and nodded.

"Are you?" I nodded.

"Did you ask your mom if I can stay here?"

"Yeah she's fine with you staying here." I smiled and her and walked over to sit down next to her.

"Maybe tomorrow after school we can go buy you some new clothes."

"You don't have to do that." She whispered.

"I want to."

"That's what you say now, you'll get tired of taking care of me and send me back to my dads." I saw a tear roll down her cheek. I wiped it off and lifted her head up to face me.

"Don't think like that. I didn't get my ass beat to just give up on you. I care about you and I want you to be safe." She nodded and rested her head on my shoulder.

"Thank you...for everything."
