Pennies From Heaven

Copper circles lay on the ground,
Shining brightly up at us.
Waiting to be picked up by one of the strangers
That walk over them without a thought.

These little circles are something that makes my family happy,
Knowing what these pennies actually mean.
They were dropped from above,
From none other than my grandmother.

In Heaven, she sits polishing each coin
With care and love,
Making sure there are no marks or scratches upon it,
Before dropping it to the bustling Earth down below.

A warm smile is plastered on her face,
As she watches the penny fall elegantly through the air.
She hears it hit the ground with a 'ping',
It sat there in all its beauty, waiting to be chosen.

Shortly after, someone came along,
Feeling down and unhappy.
They nearly miss the shiny prize,
That was right before their eyes.

She watched as someone she loved bent down,
To pick up the treasure they just found.
A sparkle fills their eyes and a small smile forms slowly.
This made their day so much better.

This made them think,
That she was really up there watching them,
Making sure they remembered that they were loved.
She would even make her husband throw a quarter every once in awhile.

Her fond smile would grow when she sees them happy,
Knowing that she has done something good.
She really did love them dearly,
And would have to do this again.

She would shine and polish,
The copper circles once again,
To show what these coins are filled with love,
These pennies from Heaven.
