The rest of the night I was on edge, but I never saw those familiar blue eyes again. I drank and danced with everyone and anyone who wanted to. By the end of the night I was drunk and barely made it home into my bed before I passed out.
Hangovers are never fun, but this one was particularly nasty. I managed to shower without vomiting and decided Starbucks was definitely needed. Lucky me there was one that took me less than ten minutes to drive to in my beat up old 97 mustang. It was the only thing my father left to me before he died years ago and I was grateful to keep it and make sure it kept running.
The line for coffee was horrendous. I stood, scrolling through my phone, when a text came through from a number I didn't recognize.
???: hey kitten. Hope you had a good night last night.
My eyes widened as I realized it was the man- vampire- thing from last night.
Layla: how did you get my number?
???: you had plenty to drink, it wasn't hard to have someone sneak your phone when your friends weren't watching. You never called.
"Ma'am?"
My head snapped up to realize no one was in front of me. I walked up to the register, and ordered my usual pumpkin spice latte.. Another ding sounded from my phone. Impatient much?
Andy: well? I'm Andy by the way.
Layla: I never said I was going to call you you freak! Leave me alone.
I tossed my phone into my purse on vibrate as my drink got called. Picking it up, I sipped it as I got back into my car. I had a whole day to myself, what was I suppose to do?
My plans were decided when I felt my phone vibrating an obnoxious amount, signaling I was getting a call. It was Andy, Along with seven texts. Jesus Christ what was his problem?
"Look I told you to leave me-"
"Dinner. Tonight. I'll have someone come pick you up at 7. I won't take no for an answer. Wear something sexy." That voice made my bones shake.
Before I had time to respond the line went dead. Fuck. Now I had to choose, go out to dinner with this completely dangerous psycho and possibly get murdered or worse fed on. Or pray he was bluffing about not taking no for an answer and just not answer my door for the driver.
Yeah right. Let's just piss of a very important wealthy looking vampire. That would definitely make things so much better.
Sighing in annoyance, I downed two painkillers and drove towards the mall. I knew nothing I had in my current closet would suffice going out for dinner with a vampire. Hah! If that's what he even really planned to do. Why take a human out to dinner before killing her?
I decided to be bold since this might be my last night alive. Jesus I shouldn't be doing this. This was a really really bad idea.
Then why did I, in some twisted way, enjoy the thought of having dinner with him? Why didn't I just go home instead of go looking for a new dress?
Shaking those thoughts far from my mind I fooled around the mall for the next hour. Finally I spotted it in the window of a store. It was a gorgeous two piece outfit that screamed daring.
The shirt was a crop top, long sleeve off the shoulder shirt made of black crush velvet. A plaid skirt accompanied it with suspenders that I knew I'd just let hand to the sides freely. It zipped right up the front. I had the perfect pair of had black half fishnet tights that would tease but also keep some modesty.
Hah, who was I kidding, if I was going out tonight I was going out with a bang. Even if I never slept with anyone I loved to tease the boys I went out it. Their reactions were always so much fun.
Buying the outfit, I cursed looking at the clock. Since I overslept and took so long shopping it only had 2 hours to get home, shower and dress. Fuck.
Once I was home, I jumped into the shower and my nerves started to hit me. What in the hell was I doing? Me, alone, with a vampire!
I blew my hair dry and curled it, letting the purple rings hang freely by my shoulders. If I was dining with a vampire there wasn't really a point in doing much make up besides lining my green eyes in black eyeliner and some dark plum lipstick. I shimmied into my outfit and heels just as there was a knock on my door.
This was my chance. I could just ignore it. Let him stand outside and eventually he'd just leave-
"Ms. Ashbury I know you're in there. I've been given strict orders to stay until you answer the door."
Fuck! I grabbed my keys and purse slowly walking to the door an opening. A round, short, human looking chauffeur tipped his hat.
"Good evening my lady. My lord is very pleased you decided to accept his dinner invitation."
Giving a half hearted smile I locked my door and got into the back of the limo the man was driving. No one else was in the backseat thank god.
"W-where are we heading?" I asked as the man began driving. The windows were too tinted to see outside of so I had no real idea where we were.
"It's to be a surprise ms Ashby."
"Please, call me Layla."
Kicking myself I sent a text to Sam detailing that if she didn't hear from me by tomorrow evening, to call the cops. I then shut off my phone, knowing once she read it I was in for a hell of an interrogation I didn't feel like answering at the moment. I'd tell her in the morning. If I lived that long.
The drive was longer than expected, or maybe my sense of time was skewed from how lost in thought I'd become.
Suddenly the limo stopped and the door was opened.
Last chance to back out....
Biting my lip I got out and gasped. We were somewhere in the suburbs of Los Angeles, the wealthier portion by the looks of it. A three story house stood in front of me, greys and blacks standing out amongst the colorful neighbors. The lawn had small trees sprouting from it but I was well kept, a few statues here and there. I gulped staring at the seemingly harmless looking blue door.
"Enjoy your stay m'lady."
Slowly, I walked up the small walkway, noting the street was extremely quiet even for this time of night. No sign of anyone else being home either.
I should be running in the other direction.
The hair on my arms stood straight as I went to knock on the door and it opened before I could, leaving me standing there with my hand up. Before I could scream I was roughly pulled into the door and pressed against it.
"You came."
Andy's voice caressed my neck as he laced his fingers through my hair, pulling my head back slightly.
"I-i thought we were having dinner." My voice squeaked, gaining a low chuckle from him. He pulled back, walking in the direction of what I assumed was the dining area. No lights were on so I had to feel for anything to steady myself as I walked.
I was blinded as he turned on the lights in his dining room. It was a magnificent grey oak table and tall black chairs. My heels clicked on the hard wood floor as he pulled out a chair, signaling with a grin for me to sit in it.
"You look absolutely ravishing kitten." He complimented, pushing my chair in as I sat. Various dishes were on the table as he picked the spot closest to me at the head of the table to my left. I focused on keeping my breathing steady as he continued speaking.
"I'm sure you've figured out by now I didn't just invite you here to have a quaint dinner with me." My eyes darted to the knife closest to me, counting the amount of weapons around me. Even if he didn't get to me first I wouldn't be able to kill him. I didn't even know how.
"I have a proposition for you Layla. A way to... live a better life than you currently are."
My eyes caught his and I hadn't realized I had stopped breathing.
"My proposition is simple: be mine. Forever."
