cli·ché

/klēˈSHā/

noun

       1. a phrase or opinion that is overused and betrays a lack of original thought.

This does not mean people do not like it, clichés are classics and enjoyed by many readers. If you want your story to be more original, try to stray from clichés or add unexpected twists into your stories.

For example:

Bad Boy and Good Girl - Make the good girl only a good girl in front of her parents. Make the bad boy not a jerk, but a sweet guy.

Popular guy/girl: Have them be a bit nerdy, or depressed.

Just try to change the narrative.
